Wooden Furniture Restoration Class

Learn the fundamentals of wooden furniture restoration in this small-group, hands-on workshop at Petit Miracles in Shepherds Bush. You'll be introduced to the core tools, materials and techniques used to bring tired wood back to life, with the focus firmly on building confidence and understanding the process from the ground up.Working step by step on a practice piece, you'll learn how to assess damage, prep surfaces properly and apply a professional finish. Because restoration is all about patience and attention to detail, this introductory session is built around mastering the core techniques rather than racing through a big project – by the end, you'll understand how to treat scratches, stains and worn finishes, giving you the confidence to start restoring your own furniture at home.It's ideal for complete beginners and DIY enthusiasts alike, especially if you're drawn to vintage furniture, interior styling or sustainable craft skills.With groups kept to no more than five, you can learn at your own pace and follow every step closely, with plenty of guidance on the reasoning behind each stage. You'll work on a wooden piece provided for the session, restored using whichever methods suit it best – and if you'd love to take yours home afterwards, just let the team know beforehand and they'll do their best to find a piece to suit.Over the session, you'll cover:

• Cleaning
• Sanding
• Staining
• Sealing (the sealer used varies)
• Correct use of tools
• Correct use of materials
• The finishing touches

By the end, you'll be able to:

• Understand which tools and materials are needed for safe stripping and sanding
• Handle restoration tools correctly, without damaging the wood or yourself
• Repair or disguise minor surface defects like peeling finish, scratches and water rings
• Apply basic finishes such as varnish, oil or stain with confidence

All the tools used are simple and easy to get hold of for your own projects at home, making this a great springboard into restoring pieces of your own.All tools, PPE and materials are provided, and you'll work on a practice piece from the studio's collection.Please note:

• This introductory workshop focuses on technique and doesn't include a take-home furniture item
• It's for adults aged 18 and over
• Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dusty, oily or stained
• Group size is limited to five participants, to keep support focused and personal
