Wheel Throwing Pottery Workshop

Make some useful and beautiful pots at this pottery class.

2.5 hours

Class size 1 to 2 (public classes), 2 to 4
  £80

In this engaging wheel throwing class in London, you'll learn the basics of making your pots from scratch on the potter's wheel.
It will begin with a brief demonstration so you can familiarise yourself with the process. You'll take turns trying out your new skills on the wheel with the teacher's guidance. Me-time between pottery attempts will provide some rest, so soak up the experience.
The longer class duration of two and a half hours will give you the time to perfect your ceramic pieces. By the end of this activity, you'll leave with two finished pots that you can claim in about three to four weeks. You can even make a third pot, however, a £10. surcharge is made to each extra pot.
Don't fret if you're new to pottery, as this class offers a relaxed and supportive environment ideal for beginners. During the class, you'll be encouraged to ask questions and refine your skills. The teacher will be there to offer guidance and help you make the most out of your time at the wheel. You'll be surprised at just how therapeutic and enjoyable this activity can be. All in all, it'll be a fun and creative way to spend an afternoon in London.
As your final reward for your efforts, you will take home a pair of glazed pots that will feel like unique masterpieces that you've crafted from scratch.

  • 5/5 from Lauren Hill, attended Sep 2026: We had such a fantastic time at our private wheel throwing class! My husband and I had never done anything like this before, but Patrick was a brilliant teacher — incredibly knowledgeable, approachable and patient throughout. We learned so much, had lots of fun and managed to create far more than we expected! Patrick made the whole experience really enjoyable and relaxed, while still teaching us plenty of new skills. We can’t wait to see the finished pieces and are already looking forward to trying pottery again. Would highly recommend the class to anyone looking for a fun and memorable experience!

Having the class be just myself and my girlfriend we got really stuck in and Patrick guided us the whole way and made it a fun experience! Would definitely recommend if you go as a pair; can’t wait to collect our glazed pots when they’re ready!
  • 5/5 from Sarah Holliday, attended Jul 2026: Fantastic enthusiastic teacher who guided us through the basics of pottery throwing and how our pots would be glazed and fired after we left. Learnt a large amount about pottery and its production. Lovely calm and relaxed atmosphere. We made five varied pots each and then chose two to be fired and glazed and collected at a later date.
  • 5/5 from Joe Long, attended Jul 2026: We had a fantastic evening. Patrick was so lovely and incredibly knowledgeable. We learned a lot! Would definitely recommend.
  • 5/5 from Viviana Membrini, attended Jun 2026: My husband and I had a wonderful time at this pottery class, and we couldn't recommend it more highly. Patrick is an exceptional teacher, clear, patient, and genuinely passionate about his craft. His practical demonstrations were impressive, and his technical explanations made the whole process feel approachable even for complete beginners. Whenever we struggled, he was right there with calm, precise guidance that actually made a difference. Wheel pottery is deceptively difficult, but thanks to Patrick's instruction we both managed to produce results we're genuinely proud of. Beyond the technique itself, there's something almost meditative about working with clay on the wheel, we both left feeling relaxed and surprisingly accomplished. We're now eagerly waiting to see our finished pieces! If you're looking for a creative, hands-on experience with a brilliant instructor, look no further.
  • 5/5 from Andie Green, attended Jun 2026: Really enjoyed the class, Patrick is very knowledgeable and patient! Learnt so much and made some lovely pots.
  • 5/5 from Jacqui Knaggs, attended May 2026: The class with Patrick was perfection! Patrick treated the two 10 year olds with professional expectations and they rose to the challenge! (A wheel challenge as my granddaughter punned!) It was a relaxed, calm, fun two and a half hours that flew by. Patrick put them at their ease from the start and by the end they had aquired several pots each and great new skills. He started with a lot of hands on guidance but gradually allowed more independence and experimentation. A total success as far as we were concerned - and Patrick seemed to enjoy it too!!
  • 5/5 from Jon Shepherd, attended May 2026: Great experience, Patrick's passion and guidance made this a session to remember and has given me the urge to do more. Thanks!
  • 5/5 from Paniz Gederi, attended May 2026: Brilliant class, great teacher. Patrick was generous with his time and we’re going away with 4 glazed bowls!
  • 5/5 from Anna, attended May 2026: The class was brilliant. Patrick not only shares his experience in the craft, but also years of knowledge about pottery with relentless passion for the art. Patrick was positive and encouraging which helped me build on my confidence, in a lovely atmosphere with sunshine coming through the window and relaxing music. I got to make a pot and a bowl which I will pick up once they have been fired in the kiln. I had a great time and I will come back again and recommend the class to friends.

I am so looking forward to seeing how our pieces turn out. I would definitely recommend the class, I would even do it again myself given the chance!

  • 5/5 from Caroline Valdez, attended Mar 2026: I had a wonderful throwing session with Patrick. Since no one else booked in, I had an individual lesson which Patrick kindly accommodated. • 5/5 from Elizabeth Scalzo, attended Feb 2026: We went as a Christmas treat mother and daughter and Patrick made us feel very welcome. Talking us through every aspect and technique. • 5/5 from Davide Parisi, attended Feb 2026: The pottery class was absolutely beautiful! The atmosphere was calm and inspiring, and the teacher was amazing - patient, clear, and so supportive while we learned to use the wheel. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a creative and relaxing experience.
  • 5/5 from Julia Scott, attended Feb 2026: My lovely friend bought the class for me as a birthday present and what a brilliant present it was! What we hadn't appreciated was that Patrick only teaches 2 students at a time... slightly more if they know each other... but this meant that we had one to one tuition which makes the price for a 2.5 hour session very good value. Patrick is extremely welcoming and has a wealth of knowledge to draw upon. We got to take 2 pots home which he takes the trouble to glaze and fire after the class. We had a go in turn with Patrick's guidance and then he let us loose on a pot we made together at the end. I would highly recommend this class.
  • 5/5 from Melanie Warren, attended Feb 2026: I booked the pottery throwing class to learn something new. The class is held within Wimbledon art studios so it’s the perfect creative setting. Patrick is very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. He was great at talking through the theory which was helpful when it came to putting it into practice. I would highly recommend booking solo or with a friend- perfect for learning something from someone who really knows his stuff. Can’t wait to pick up my pots.

  • 5/5 from Deborah Meyer, attended Jan 2026: My husband and I finally got around to using our gift voucher - and so glad we picked Patrick's excellent Wheel Throwing Pottery Workshop! From the initial booking until the end of the class Patrick proved to be an enthusiastic and engaging communicator and educator and a true master of his craft. The class was well structured with lots of hands-on work including some 'free work' time at the end to create what we liked! The class was very practical, with some essential history and anecdotes from his long career for context. Above all, it was hugely enjoyable and we got some pretty respectable pots to take home at the end - if they survive the kiln. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and one we highly recommend! Thank you!

I studied ceramics at Epsom School of Art and Design back in the seventies and have since had various studios and worked in a pottery department teaching and as a technician. I also give classes in my present studio. These are for potting on the potters wheel and for hand building techniques. My own work is mainly decorative and functional using various techniques for making and for decoration.
My passion for pottery is not only for making but also for teaching and the enjoyment people get from making pottery.
