Always wanted to try your hand at sculpture but weren't sure where to begin? Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced artist branching out into a new discipline, this wax sculpture course is a brilliant starting point. Learn about working with soft and hard waxes, wax casting, making wax sculpture as a finished product or as a stage towards casting into metals or ceramic slip.Wax is a versatile modelling medium for making sculpture. During this course your experienced tutor will encourage you to experiment with the different properties of wax, building architecturally and experimenting with different textures as well as casing and assembling components from plaster moulds.During the course you'll learn:Day one
- Learn how to mix up your own modelling wax.
- Cast waxes into plaster moulds and make up sheet waxes.
- Model in hard and soft waxes and learn about their different advantages.
- Make plaster moulds for wax casting.
- Use wax casts as a way of scaling up artworks.
- Reinforce wax for showing it as a finished product.

Your teacher
London Sculpture Workshop is an independent sculpture studio in Woolwich, South East London, located within Thames Side Studios, offering exceptional facilities for artists and those interested in making three-dimensional work. Our short course programme covers a wide variety of technical and skill-based processes, taught by practising artists in superbly equipped workshops. We teach a range of skills including welding, casting, mould making, metal and woodwork, ceramics and hot metal practices. London Sculpture Workshop is a not-for-profit, community interested company, established in 2012 by artists Giles Corby and Jessica Mello, trained at Royal College of Art and Slade. LSW has partnered with a number of prestigious organisations including; The British Museum, The Crafts Council, CRISIS, The Architecture Association and Oxford Brooke's University. In 2013 and 2014 LSW was awarded the Chelsea Arts Club Trust ‘Artist Run Space Award’ and awarded a grant for our work from the Mayor of London in 2016.
