Make a Pattern from Your Favourite Clothes Workshop

Make a pattern from your favourite vintage or old garments in your wardrobe.

6 hours Location Edinburgh Class size 1 to 4 (public classes), 3 to 6   £110

Do you have an item of clothing at home that you love but have never found one like it again?
In this welcoming and supportive environment, you'll learn how to make your own pattern from a cherished garment—without having to take it apart! We'll cover different techniques for how to take a 3D garment and make a 2D pattern from it. We'll then look at checking it for accuracy, adding seam allowance and notches. Finally, we'll talk about the order of construction to help you sew your own versions at home, or you could join us on one of our garment-making courses to have some help along the way from one of our teachers!
Please note - we shouldn't copy any designs that have been recently in store, so please bring something old or vintage!
You are welcome to bring lunch, or there is a large choice of cafes on Easter Road, a 2-minute walk away. Tea, coffee, and sweet snacks will be provided. You will be welcome to stay in the studio for lunch and/or return to continue your patterns at any time.
In this workshop, we'll be mostly standing at the cutting table, with small parts of the first day seated for breaks. The studio is upstairs in an old Victorian building that unfortunately has no lift.
