Bao buns are already popular across London — soft, fluffy, and perfect for sharing. But have you tried their elegant cousin? In China, twisted spring onion buns are a household favourite, yet they’re rarely seen in the UK.
In this fully vegan-friendly Asian bun-making class, you’ll learn how to create three classic Chinese buns completely from scratch:
  • Bao Buns
  • Vegan Bao (traditional steamed buns)
  • Spring Onion Twists (beautifully layered and aromatic)
  • From flour to finished bun, you’ll get hands-on with dough, shaping, steaming, and tasting — guided step by step by experienced chef tutors.
Small classes ensure personal attention, and weekday bookings often feel like a private masterclass.

  • 5/5 from Bobbi Duffin, attended Aug 2026: As always, Hanna & Simon were amazing and very patient as they helped us through the steps for each different bun. The best part was that we got to eat a few at the end of the lesson! This is our third class with them and we will most certainly be coming back for another class.

  • 5/5 from Cat Weston, attended Nov 2025: Excellent class with super friendly and helpful teachers! We booked the Vegan Buns Three Ways plus optional add-ons smashed cucumber and tofu salad. We learned dough skills and also knife skills and tips and tricks for all the ingredients and approaches were shared, including using hot oil to bring out flavour even in cold dishes. Hanna and Simon also taught us about the history and culture of the dishes and were super patient in showing us (and reshowing us!) the different techniques. We had great fun, laughed a lot, and learned a lot. And we had lots of delicious food to eat and take home after! We would 100% recommend.
  • 5/5 from Elisa Pisi, attended Aug 2025: Both Simon and Hannah were lovely and very patient. Additionally to kneading, forming and eating the different Buns you also got additional information about the whole history behind it. The class was entertaining and instructive from the beginning to the end. I would recommend it to everyone who wants to get started with the basics of Buns.
  • 5/5 from Farah Ranjbar-Balaie, attended Jul 2025: Everything was 10 out of 10. From the teachers to the service to the quality. My husband and I came here for the first time and it certainly won’t be the last. We are already planning to book the pineapple cookie making class. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 from Sam Ernest, attended Jun 2025: My partner and I had a great time today in our cooking class. We were in a small group of 4 with 2 teachers and made three types of buns, in total it took 90 minutes. The teachers were very attentive giving great demonstrations and then helping to ensure our bao buns came out well - they also shared interesting history and context about the food we were making and shared valuable insights. They then served us the food we made with kimchi and chilli sauce, it was delicious! Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys cooking or bao buns.
  • 5/5 from Victoria Turner, attended Jun 2025: Best cooking class ever!!! This was a great course and Simon and Hanna were excellent teachers! Hands-on practical class learning how to make the buns, plus lots of really interesting history around the food we were making and plenty of tips and tricks that you could use when making the buns at home. I’d definitely recommend booking this class - great teachers, great cooking advice and you come away with lots of lovely food you can eat afterwards!!! I will definitely be doing another course with Simon and Hanna in the future!

It was a fun class and great to learn a bit about the history of the food alongside the skills to make it. Would highly recommend. Thanks Simon and Hanna :)

Our dessert workshops celebrate colour, texture and joy — turning simple ingredients into stunning, handcrafted treats.
We keep our classes small to ensure personal guidance and a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you’re joining for a date night, birthday, team event or simply to learn something new, you’ll be welcomed into a calm and thoughtfully designed space.
Many of our weekday sessions feel almost like private classes — giving you time to ask questions and refine your skills.
Our Philosophy
Craft. Culture. Confidence.
We believe learning should feel rewarding, not rushed.
Beautiful, not complicated.
Professional, yet welcoming.
When you leave our studio, we want you to feel proud of what you’ve created — and confident enough to recreate it at home.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hanna and Simon's Foodie Kitchen.
