In this therapeutic book arts introduction class, you’ll be gently introduced to creative expression through bookmaking, exploring how photography and visual arts can support reflection, calm, and self-expression. Through guided discussion and practical making, you’ll translate these ideas into the creation of simple, meaningful mini book structures.
This class is designed especially for beginners and those who may feel unsure about their creativity. You’ll be welcomed into a safe, supportive space where there’s no pressure to perform or get things “right.” The focus is on exploration, process, and personal response, with clear guidance throughout.
What to expect:
  • An introduction to therapeutic approaches in photography and visual arts.
  • Learning how these ideas can be applied to bookmaking.
  • Creating several mini book structures step by step.
  • Using simple, easy-to-source materials so you can focus on making.
  • A calm, hands-on session that encourages reflection and creativity.
By the end of the workshop, you may find yourself feeling more grounded, creatively energised, and proud of what you’ve made. You’ll have handmade book pieces, new creative skills, and a deeper understanding of book arts as a therapeutic and reflective practice!

I have taught photography and book arts for many years in higher education and community settings in the U.K and Ireland. Work has mainly been in academic contexts at UK based university’s, however I now focus more on adult learning and community engagement. I currently also teach for the Royal Photographic Society.
It’s an absolute delight to share my skills and knowledge with like minded people who are keen to learn new skills and creative approaches.
My qualifications include postgraduate degrees in Fine Art Photography, Social Sciences, as well as professional development in Mindful Photography, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Photography, and PG Cert teaching qualification.
As well as a solid grounding in analogue and digital photography, I have embraced a more therapeutic approach to these visual skills and offer a very holistic approach to workshops and creative approaches.
