Try your hand at embroidery in this friendly, hands-on class in Burgess Hill, where you'll learn the art of stitching and turn a simple three-to-five letter word into a beautiful, personalised embroidered piece.
Complete beginners are very welcome – your host will guide you through every step with patience and encouragement, making the whole process feel easy and enjoyable from the start. There's no experience needed, just a curiosity for making and a word or phrase you'd love to bring to life in thread.
You'll work with a lovely range of colours and thread types, choosing the perfect combination to suit your design and your own personal style. If there are any specific threads you'd like to incorporate, feel free to bring them along for an extra personal touch.
By the end of the session, you'll have picked up a new skill and created a one-of-a-kind piece of textile art – ready to display at home or give as a truly thoughtful, handmade gift.

The Codification of Stitch
The Codification of Stitch

female Women-owned

Hi,
I am Charlotte, a Sussex-based embroidery artist and the owner of The Codification of Stitch. My embroidery journey started at the Royal School of Needlework, where I graduated with a first-class degree in Hand Embroidery. I have worked in a wide variety of industry jobs, including couture fashion houses, embroidery for film, and creating commissioned pieces for private clients, as well as winning various embroidery prizes such as the Hand & Lock prize 2025.
Each of my workshops focuses on the concept of hiding words or messages within embroidery that are unique to the maker. My workshops are aimed at all abilities, with step-by-step guidance enabling anyone to give embroidery a go!
If you are someone wanting to explore a new challenge or just wanting to have a play and explore the possibilities within embroidery, come along and discover something new.
