The Preloved Studio is a textile studio run by the charity Sustainable Merton. Set inside the Grade II listed Georgian House called Canons House, the Studio is a small oasis set in the beautiful grounds of the house. The Studio has been set up to reduce textile waste by encouraging people to learn sewing skills, but we also run numerous creative textile workshops as well.
The studio comes fully equipped with use of a cutting table, 7 domestic sewing machines, 2 domestic overlockers and an industrial iron/steamer. For confident sewers with experience we also have an industrial sewing machine and overlocker. We even have an assortment of preloved fabrics that can be used for workshops!
We have 3 working tables in the studio, 9 standard chairs and 2 chairs on wheels.
Tables can be moved for activities such as hand-sewing/crochet/knitting/etc where a circular table setting is more appropriate.
Canons House have a small kitchenette on the same level as the Studio with a sink, and downstairs in the basement where they have a communal kitchen and exhibition space. There is free Wifi that you can connect to, and we have facilitaties such as a portable projector which can be used.
The Studio is ideal for sewing or textile crafts.

The Preloved Studio is a vibrant community textile hub based at Canons House, London, created by the charity, Sustainable Merton, with a clear mission: to tackle textile waste while inspiring creativity, confidence, and new skills. What began as a simple idea—to help people repair and reimagine their clothes—has grown into a thriving space where sustainability and self-expression go hand in hand.

For the past three years, The Preloved Studio has welcomed people of all skill levels to explore the world of textiles in an accessible, supportive environment. Our passion comes from seeing the transformation—not just of textiles, but of people. There’s something powerful about learning to fix, alter, or completely reinvent a piece of fabric you once overlooked. For many, that “lightbulb moment” happens when they realise they can create something unique with their own hands, while also reducing waste and saving money.

At the heart of The Preloved Studio is a love of teaching. We
