The Practical Photography Project

Create your own photography project with personal feedback.

6 x 2 hours Class size 5 to 8 guests

£175 - £230 (£175 for Standard; £230 for Premium mentoring) (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

You’re invited to The Practical Photo Project -- a live, online course designed to help you create more meaning, focus, and satisfaction in your photography through project-based work. Instead of chasing single images or wondering what to shoot next, this course shows you how to build a thoughtful body of work that explores a subject in depth and helps you develop your own photographic voice.
This course is welcoming, practical, and suitable for photographers at any level. You don’t need to arrive with a finished idea -- curiosity is enough! You’ll work in a small, supportive group (maximum eight people), with live teaching, clear structure, and personal feedback throughout. The emphasis is on vision, intention, and creative growth rather than camera gear or technical perfection.
What to expect:
  • A 5-month live online course with 6 x two-hour group calls.
  • A proven, step-by-step framework for creating a successful photography project.
  • Guidance on choosing and shaping a theme, setting boundaries, and allowing ideas to evolve.
  • Learning how outputs influence images, and how to identify gaps in your work.
  • Sequencing techniques to create rhythm, flow, and coherence.
  • Proofing, refining, and preparing your work for final output.
  • The chance to present and celebrate your final project.
  • Live examples of Matt’s own projects and how they were made.
  • Ongoing personal feedback in a supportive group environment.
  • Recordings of all sessions if you can’t attend live!
  • Access to a WhatsApp group for connection and support.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a completed photography project, a clear creative process you can return to again and again, and new confidence in your direction as a photographer. You’ll stop worrying about what to shoot next, start working with greater intention, and experience the deep satisfaction that comes from making meaningful work!

Your teacher

I am an experienced photographer and digital artist from Wiltshire. I have been creating smartphone images for many years. I have published four books of my work and my prints and cards are widely available.
I am also a professional trainer and have studied brain friendly learning. I deliberately work with small group sessions to make sure that you receive tips, personal feedback and inspiration.
I am experienced in all types of photography so I focus on making sure that you develop the style that is right for you. I love teaching clients how to develop new ways of seeing.
Most of my images are made as close to home as possible. This is both to minimise my impact on the environment and also to show what can be found and celebrated locally.
I love to wander in wild and lonely places. I also like local walks, cats, fountain pens, craft beer and chocolate.
