The Magic of Silver Clay Workshop

In this creative jewellery making workshop, you'll learn how to transform silver clay into beautiful solid silver pieces. Throughout the session, you'll develop essential metalsmithing techniques while crafting your own pendant, charms, or drop earrings to take home.This hands-on activity welcomes participants of all skill levels, requiring no previous jewellery making experience. The properties of silver clay make it accessible and versatile – perfect for beginners while offering endless design possibilities.During the workshop, your tutor will begin with an introduction to silver clay, explaining its properties and showing examples of their work. You'll then receive step-by-step demonstrations on handling, texturing, rolling, and cutting the clay to create your designs. With hands-on support throughout, you'll learn how to refine and drill holes in your pieces, torch and kiln fire your jewellery, and finish by polishing and patinating your creations. The number of pieces you complete will depend on the size of your designs, as you'll be working with a set amount of silver clay.By the end of this engaging workshop, you'll have created 1–3 unique pieces of solid silver jewellery and gained valuable skills in a fascinating medium. The session is broken into clear, manageable steps with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, experiment, and enjoy the creative process.Who is my instructor?Grainne has been a passionate metal clay artist and tutor for over 10 years, sharing her expertise through a wide range of workshops. Originally trained as a psychiatric nurse, she pursued a more creative path, earning a diploma in Silver Clay. From her garden studio, she designs new jewellery collections and develops innovative workshops. She teaches across the UK and Europe, including at Arts University Bournemouth, West Dean College, and a silver clay retreat in Andalusia, Spain. Grainne has also been a speaker at major metal clay conferences like You Can Make It and Sinter. You'll design and create your own pendant, charm, or drop earrings.
