Welcome to Four Otter Craft Studio’s Textile School: a supportive, school-style learning space where you can grow your knitting, crochet, and spinning skills over five focused weekly sessions.
This course is designed for anyone who wants structured, personalised guidance — whether you’re building technical skills, starting a new project, or learning how to finish the ones you’ve already begun.
You choose your pathway.
We provide the teaching, coaching, troubleshooting, and encouragement to help you make real progress.
What you’ll do
Over five weeks, you’ll work in a small group with an experienced teacher who will help you:
Choose your learning pathway
At the start of the course, you’ll choose one of the following:
1. Skill Pathway
Use our curated Textile School modules to build technique and confidence. Options include:
Knitting Techniques: colourwork, lace, cables, shaping, and more
Crochet Techniques: ripple stitch, textures (puff/bobble/popcorn), granny square variations, and more
OR
2. Project Pathway
Bring along a project you want to start — or we'll help you find one that suits. We’ll help you understand the pattern, choose materials, break down the steps, and progress week by week.
OR
3. Bring-Your-Own WIP Pathway
If you have unfinished projects, we’ll help you progress and actually finish them.
Whichever Pathway you choose, we’ll support you with:
  • fixing mistakes
  • reading patterns
  • tension issues
  • shaping
  • construction
  • blocking
  • professional finishing techniques
How it works
Each session includes:
  • Teaching time: Learn techniques from your pathway modules
  • Guided practice: Work on your project with hands-on support
  • Troubleshooting: Fix problems, build confidence, and understand why things happen
  • Weekly check-ins: Track your progress so you keep momentum
Whether you're learning a brand-new skill or deepening an existing one, you’ll leave each week knowing exactly what to work on next.
Who this course is for
  • Confident beginners ready to build skills
  • Improvers who need structured guidance
  • Makers who get stuck or overwhelmed on their own
  • Anyone who loves learning in a supportive school-style environment
  • People who want accountability and clear steps forward
You don’t need to know everything to start — just be able to knit or crochet the basics and be excited to learn more.

I’m more confident to buy patterns which are sometimes complicated and often beyond my knitting skills as I know if I get stuck one of the lovely tutors will help me out and I will learn something new. Nessa and Sofia have a vast wealth of knowledge and pass this on to their students. I like being in a small group with other crafters.

Both tutors have shown me how to tackle any problems and given me suggestions. The atmosphere in the class is calm, fun and inspiring. Thank you Nessa and Sophia.

  • 5/5 from Carol Wood, attended Jan 2026: Enrolled on this course after completing their 3 week total beginner knitting course. (Which was also great.) I really enjoyed it and have learned far more than I thought possible. My new knitting skills have really progressed. Nessa and Sophie are both great teachers, patient and with a huge wealth of knowledge, especially useful when it comes to helping you untangle your mistakes and educating you how to avoid the same errors in future! It a wonderful venue, quirky, charming cosy and absolutely stuffed with all things woollen and everything to do with knitting, spinning and crochet. I will be returning soon.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jan 2026: I have been learning a new knitting technique. The teachers are very knowledgeable in their crafts and gave me good advice and encouragement. They are both extremely patient and welcoming. The venue is warm and cosy and ideal for a crafting space.
