Succession Planting Workshop for Resilient Gardens

Bring your garden to the next level with year-round interest through strategic succession planting.

5 hours Class size 1 to 3 guests       £107 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

This new workshop is designed as an opportunity to enhance your plant knowledge and grow your confidence to successfully plan and maintain the succession of your planting within your garden.
In this workshop, you'll learn to create year-round garden interest through strategic succession planting. You'll develop skills in planning seasonal displays that combine flowering periods, foliage textures, and colours for continuous visual appeal.
The session combines classroom theory, garden walks, and practical exercises. You'll analyse real garden examples, participate in group discussions, and create your own succession planting plan to take home.
Together we will cover:
  • Planning and evaluating
  • Seasonal interest
  • Layered planting
  • Long-term vision
  • Biodiversity & wildlife
We will share our tips on how to create and maintain a successional, biodiverse, and resilient garden with minimal use of resources to achieve maximum output for wildlife, wellbeing, and enjoyment by welcoming life and colour into your space through a design and installation that works for you.
You'll leave equipped to create resilient, biodiverse gardens that provide year-round interest while supporting local wildlife.
Please note this workshop refers to ornamental succession planting in a garden, not the succession planting of vegetable gardening, which is used to ensure a constant supply of fresh produce.
Knowledge required
This is a session we recommend to all with some gardening experience who would like to take the next step in creating a successful year-round, every-season display in their own or a communal garden.
What to bring
Please bring along photos of the plants in your garden for the discussion session.

Walworth Garden is a sustainable gardening, wellbeing, and education charity based in South London. We have been offering transformational learning opportunities for over 30 years, including a range of workshops designed to connect people to nature.
We are experts in supporting wildlife, growing biodiversity, and living sustainably, and share our progressive approaches in our well-loved workshop sessions, where all profits support our essential charitable work. This includes gardening therapy for those facing barriers to accessing mental health support, and City & Guilds accredited Level 2 Environmental Gardening training programmes that support entry into sustainable jobs, particularly for those historically excluded from the horticulture industry.
We welcome visitors to our thriving community garden and Plant Centre 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
