Swing dancing first captured my imagination through its music, moves, and culture associated with the Swing Era. My initial curiosity on how to learn to dance soon turned into a greater appreciation for Lindy Hop and authentic jazz dancing along with their rich history and culture.Why is swing dancing special? One of the many aspects of Lindy Hop that one usually overlooks is the immense amount of freedom embedded in it. Being created in the African-American community of Harlem, Lindy Hop had amazing exposure to the jazz music of its era.Moreover, I appreciate the social aspect of swing dancing. Swing dancing is one of the few activities that give you an opportunity to get to know different people as you keep changing partners all the time.
