What you'll do
One of the most important aspects of photography is the lighting, and getting it right can be the difference between a good and a great image. At this photography class in London, you'll learn from a professional photographer how to manipulate light and shadow to really make your photos shine.
Through a combination of classroom-based learning and hands-on practical exercises, you'll learn how well-known photographers used light and shadow to create their own signature looks, as well as how you can recreate these for yourself. Using studio-quality tools and equipment, you'll have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of different techniques until you find one that suits you.
During the class, you'll cover:
- Best studio practise.
- Soft and hard lighting.
- Light modifiers: softbox, beauty dish, umbrellas, snoots, reflectors.
- One, two and three light setups.
- Lighting techniques: Rembrandt, clamshell, butterfly, high/low key.
- Backgrounds and props.
- Coloured gels.
- Working with a model.
Your friendly tutor will also give you tips on the best way to use your particular camera setup, as well as answer any questions you may have about the process. You'll leave the class with a head brimming with newfound knowledge about the more technical aspects of photography, along with some incredible images to add to your portfolio or show off to your friends and family.

Experience in photography is not essential, but a good understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO is an advantage.
