How can we help?
Q: How many children can one adult bring?
One adult per group is fine as long as you are able to assist any very young children in the group. Children over 8 can generally work confidently on this project. Each person attending will have their own seat, be making and needs a booked place.
Q: My children like to run about, is this suitable?
My studio is a working space and situated with other art workers. Whilst this is a cheerful and friendly session you’ll need to remind that this is a sat down activity and it’s dangerous for me and them if they are running around.
Q: Is there a toilet / parking / a cafe?
Yes free unrestricted parking mere steps from my door, there is a toilet inside my studio and there is a great cafe on site [mon-fri at the moment].
Q: Can you squeeze more than four in / have a larger group?
Yes- let’s discuss. Depending on the ages of your children I can reconfigure the space to add more. For lots more I can book an additional space.
Q: Is this suitable for adults without children?
Of course, clay work is immersive and rewarding at any age and adults have hugely enjoyed making these.
Q: Would this make a good hen party activity?
You are very welcome to bring your adult group, I can set up table for your drinks and you won’t get hugely messy so it would make a lovely start to your evening. I can hire a larger space for a larger group.
Q: What ages is this class suitable for?
A: Adults & 4+ years. An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

Rolling Out
We’ll roll out the clay we need. I’ll show you how clay moves and how it is best rolled. For very young children I can prepare this earlier.
There Are Tools to Help
I have a slab roller which can be used by me and assisted by children.
Cut with Templates
They’ll be templates to help cut the right shapes.
Impressing & Construction
Everyone enjoys using stamps with clay. It’s so immersive and we can use rollers, textured fabrics etc. Strong constructions will be created with liquid clay called slip.
Personalise Your Chicken
There are lots of ways to personalise your work. We can add elements or colour.
Full Firing & Glazing Included
Your work will be kiln fired and glazed [as part of the class cost] and ready to collect three to four weeks later.

Thames-side Studios is on the river near the Thames Barrier. Local buses to here connect well with the Elizabeth line in Woolwich, or the Thames Clipper stops at Woolwich or North Greenwich or trains from Woolwich Dockyard. There is ample stress free parking right alongside my studio which is unrestricted on time and free of charge.
Your teacher
I am an experienced and friendly full time potter with a lovely working space within a vibrant makers creative community right by the Thames. I combine teaching privately and in community spaces with making hand built stoneware homewares for local sale at markets and in prize winning retailers. My ten years’ of teaching has included welcoming many individuals to my studio but also included primary to university level students, whole school arts week projects, SEN students, reach out for adults, adult and young person homeless and carers’ groups. This year I have formalised my teaching with a level 3 qualification, and also I love it, I really enjoy teaching. It’s brilliant sharing the joy of clay work and the excitement of producing something personal or functional, & that’s even before explaining the miracle that glazing can achieve. At the end of class it’s satisfying to show the kiln and how the clay will progress through the process. And while it is such a pleasure to teach clay skills it’s also important to acknowledge the the well-being benefits, my small group classes allow for peaceful and companionable immersion in making or for a fun group when booked out by friends.
