I'm Barnaby Hosking, founder of Dalston Clay CIC—a social enterprise born from my vision to make art and wellbeing more accessible to everyone. After 20 years of working as an artist in Dalston, East London, the forced closure of our artist studios in 2022 led me to reimagine how creative spaces could serve the community differently.
Instead of accepting defeat from rising rents, I partnered with psychologist Josh Dickson to create something new: a 1000 sq.ft ceramic studio that transforms into a space for yoga and meditation. Clay has always been central to my art practice, embodying everything I value about being an artist—our connection to earth, the joy of creating, and the power of bringing people together.
Dalston Clay opened in April 2023 with a unique mission to combine pottery with mindfulness practices. We believe in getting people into 'flow' through our blend of ceramics, meditation, and yoga. As a Community Interest Company, we're committed to making these experiences available to everyone, regardless of their background or financial situation
Our studio represents more than just a place to make pottery—it's a response to London's changing landscape, offering a space where art, wellness, and community can thrive together. Through Dalston Clay, I'm continuing my journey as an artist while helping others discover their own creative path.
