Silver Pendant Making Workshop

Join us for a hands-on beginner-friendly jewellery making class, where you will not only make your very own silver initial or name pendant to treasure and enjoy, but you will also learn more about hallmarking and what it means. And as a bonus, your pendant will be hallmarked by the London Assay Office with the FORGE hallmark!

This two-hour workshop will give you the opportunity to try "piercing" (hand sawing), drilling, and surface finishing – the fundamental skills that every jeweller needs to create their designs!

After booking your workshop, we will contact you to select your pendant shape and custom initial or name. This will then be laser-engraved by our specialist neighbours: Laser Engraving Services.

On the day of the workshop, the silver will be ready for you to pierce out and finish into a unique pendant.

Whilst you are making, you will also learn more about the meaning behind the shapes you have chosen. They are the FORGE brand shapes which pay homage to the "shield" shapes in Hallmarks. Each shield within a hallmark contains the initials of the maker who crafted the jewellery. Significantly, these "Maker's Marks" are entirely unique. This uniqueness serves as a distinct identifier, identifying a piece to its creator and verifying its authenticity.

Fun fact: Hallmarking is the earliest form of consumer protection!

Just as every "Maker's Mark" is unique, so too will be the pendant you create—truly a one-of-a-kind treasure that reflects your individuality.

What is the meaning behind the FORGE shapes?

The shapes pay homage to the "shield" shapes in hallmarks. These shapes are integral to the "Maker Mark" within a hallmark. Each shield contains the initials of the maker who crafted the jewellery. Significantly, every "Maker's Mark" is entirely unique. This uniqueness serves as a distinct identifier, linking a piece to its creator and verifying its authenticity.

Applying this notion to FORGE’s branding, these shapes have a twofold significance. Just as each shield embodies the artisan’s identity through the Makers Mark, the shapes also reflect the spirit of a community of individual makers. What do I need to prepare?

After booking your spot, we will contact you to choose from a selection of FORGE shapes and fonts. We will then pre-laser engrave your initial or name onto your shape ready for you to pierce out, drill a hole, add a jump ring and suspend from a chain.

What will I make?

You will make a personalised silver Initial or name pendant. Learn the skill of piercing out during this workshop and make your own personalised silver pendant.

What will happen on the day?

You'll be introduced to the world of jewellery learning introductory skills whilst enjoying making a unique personalised piece of jewellery. You'll receive step-by-step guidance through demonstration with an experienced teacher.

You will learn:

• How to use a saw frame and learn about different grades of saw blades.
• How to clean up edges with files.
• How to mark out and drill a hole.
• How to create a matte surface finishing with emery paper and wire wool.
• How to form a jump ring and use pliers to attach your pendant to a chain.
