What you'll do
Monday 19 February - Monday 18 March (5 weeks)
During this 5-week evening workshop, you will explore the craft of chain making. Throughout this course, you'll dip into the rich history and significance of chains in jewellery. By the end, you'll possess the skills needed to craft your own unique designs, all while honing your soldering techniques.
What will I make?
Join us for a comprehensive five-week journey into the world of chain making. This course will cover various chain styles, including Trace, Curb, and Loupe in Loupe Chains. These classic designs have stood the test of time and continue to be a popular choice. Additionally, you'll gain invaluable soldering experience, boosting your confidence in other jewellery-making techniques.
What will happen during the workshop?
Throughout the five weeks, you will master the art of making chains in copper. Here's what to expect:
Week 1: Introduction to Chain Making - Learn the fundamentals of chain design, history, and the importance of chains in jewellery.
Week 2: Soldering Techniques - Build your soldering expertise while starting to create your first chain links.
Week 3: Crafting Trace and Curb Chains - Dive into crafting the classic Trace and Curb chain styles, exploring different textures and finishes.
Week 4: Loupe in Loupe Chain - Discover the intricate Loupe in Loupe chain and explore advanced soldering methods.
Week 5: Personal Projects - Apply your newfound skills to create your unique chain designs. Your imagination is your only limit.
At the end of 5 weeks, you will have mastered the craft of chain making and leave with a collection of beautiful handcrafted chains.
Knowledge required
Difficulty Level: MEDIUMSome prior jeweling experience is useful; however, we are able to adapt this course to beginner level.

What to bring
- Reading glasses (if you need them!)
- Sketchbook
Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose-fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught while you are working.
Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open-toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!
Hair: Tie long hair back.
