What you'll do
Are you looking for a unique and exciting new art form? Explore the world of metalwork and create your very own copper sculpture!
You'll be guided from start to finish by your experienced metalwork teacher as you build your skills in a satisfying and rewarding craft. Over the course of four days, you will cover safety, building your confidence with a range of tools, and how to bend copper to your will.
Sheet copper is a versatile material, great for an outdoor art piece, water feature and hanging mobiles. Your friendly teacher will help you perfect your designs, but you are completely free to make whatever your heart wishes.
Whether you want a one-of-a-kind London activity, or you've always wanted to try out your own metalwork project, this course is a great way to pick up new skills and have fun with like-minded creatives.
Day One
- You will be creating designs using paper templates to cut sheet copper.
- You will be carving wooden moulds and formers to use when beating your copper into shapes.
Day Two
You will be cutting, shaping and folding copper using heat and cold beating techniques.
Day Three
You will be joining copper by brazing using brass filler rods, or riveting.
Day Four
You will add surface finishes, patinas and effects for sheet copper sculptures.
Please note: The stated class duration includes a one-hour break for lunch.

Your teacher
London Sculpture Workshop is an independent sculpture studio in Woolwich, South East London, located within Thames Side Studios, offering exceptional facilities for artists and those interested in making three-dimensional work.
Our short course programme covers a wide variety of technical and skill-based processes, taught by practising artists in superbly equipped workshops. We teach a range of skills including welding, casting, mould making, metal and woodwork, ceramics and hot metal practices.
London Sculpture Workshop is a not-for-profit, community interested company, established in 2012 by artists Giles Corby and Jessica Mello, trained at Royal College of Art and Slade. LSW has partnered with a number of prestigious organisations including; The British Museum, The Crafts Council, CRISIS, The Architecture Association and Oxford Brooke's University. In 2013 and 2014 LSW was awarded the Chelsea Arts Club Trust ‘Artist Run Space Award’ and awarded a grant for our work from the Mayor of London in 2016.
