Hello! My name is Shanice and I'm the owner of the SH Jewellery Academy :)
I deliver jewellery making workshops in London that are easy, fun and social. Water, mimosas and nimosas (non-alcoholic) will be present for you at every in-person workshop and the music will keep you in the party mood. Learning should be fun, so that's the aim for every workshop!
I use good quality materials, most of which are hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic supplies have been treated to make the risk of having an allergic reaction almost 0. I'm allergic to Nickel, so I always try to get findings without Nickel, Lead and Cadmium (knowing they are 3 common metals that people are allergic to). In terms of the beads, I mostly use gemstone and crystal pave beads, love a bit of sparkle. I have other types of beads as well, such as letter beads, so I'm hopeful you'll find beads you like.
I'm also available for private hire, so please do reach out if none of the options listed are applicable to you!
About Me:
I taught myself how to make jewellery when I was 17 years old because I thought running a jewellery business would be easy. How wrong I was! I ended up running the business for 8 years in total, but it was far from easy and took me over several mountains I wasn't sure if I could climb.
The business is my biggest achievement to date though. It had it's really great moments and I learnt more than I have in any job. Being responsible for everything was scary, but it was exactly what I needed at the time as it showed me what I was capable of. I may have been young, but I was gooood!
Having taken a break from jewellery, I missed it, so I've now brought my business back to life on Etsy (ShaniceHDesigns) and have decided to expand into workshops.
I love teaching! Most of my employment since January 2020 has been in teaching, tutoring and facilitating. Before the questions cross your mind, I am a qualified teacher and yes, I started just before Covid-19 hit. The absolute worse timing!
There's something special about teaching someone something new, seeing them light up when they get it. It warms me up like no other job can. Facilitating and delivering group sessions is great because it allows for more social interaction, but one-to-one/private sessions allow for more focus and quicker skill development. I like them both and am flexible to your needs/wants.
Jewellery making is a very practical skill, which makes it more fun in my opinion. You get to make something special you can keep forever and those skills won't quickly be forgotten. It doesn't matter how many times we get things wrong, the important thing is we'll eventually get it right and it'll be even sweeter. I still make mistakes, several years later and it's perfectly fine. It was meant to be a circle but looks more like a square. That's fine, it's a quadrilateral now.
Anyway, you're probably tired of me now, so I hope to see you at one of my workshops!
