Sewing Workshop - Full Day

Join friendly teacher Janette and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life as you learn to sew in a warm and welcoming stitching sanctuary!

Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced sewer, this class is a great chance to spend the day working on a length of fabric in multiple ways.

You'll begin by using a simple running stitch on your collage of colourful materials, looking at how different cultures have different ways of repairing and re-using fabric. Janette will also introduce you to a selection of contemporary twists on traditional embroidery stitches, along with popular Japanese sashiko.

As well as picking up some impressive sewing techniques, you'll experiment with solar dyeing and natural ways of staining fabrics before trying out a simple method of transferring an image so that you can patch it into your work and make it truly individual.

Whether you're looking for fun things to do in London with friends or want to connect with like-minded others in a relaxing atmosphere, this sewing class will leave you with DIY projects to revisit whenever you need something calming to do.

• Your solar-dye experiment jar and a piece of fabric to take home and continue working on.
• A printed hand-out with instructions.

• Please email your teacher with an image you would like to incorporate into your work and bring a treasured small scrap of patterned or stitched fabric that you are happy to stain, e.g. a patch of clothing or some abandoned patchwork or embroidery.
• You'll share a communal lunch with your group, and your teacher will provide a couple of dishes, but please bring something to share with the group (preferably vegetarian).
