Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Carol Jones, attended Sep 2026: Was taught how to use my machine properly plus how to do a number of new things Teacher was very knowledgeable and helpful Would definitely recommend this one-to-one
  • 5/5 from Lisa Smallridge, attended Jun 2026: The teacher was lovely, very approachable. Gave great instructions and advice on moving forward. Knowledgeable about the different feet for sewing.
  • 5/5 from Elizabeth Ashby, attended Mar 2026: One to one tutorial on the ls19 sewing machine was extremely informative and helpful as I was a novice in the way of electric machines. Nicole, from Hobbycraft was prompt, very knowledgeable and patient. This workshop was well worth attending.
  • 5/5 from Miranda Dixon, attended Mar 2026: Was very enjoyable and relaxed and I learnt what I went to learn
  • 5/5 from Claire Jackson, attended Apr 2025: Excellent
  • 5/5 from Jocelyne Krummen, attended Apr 2025: I think it would be better to allow the learner to bring their own sewing machine. That way they could learn with the exact machine. It doesn't make sense to teach with a different sewing machine. What is the reason for not allowing it?
  • 1/5 from Lynn Travers-Howard, attended Nov 2024: The machine I was interested in was not available for demo. The staff recommended a particular one but then spent about half the lesson time looking elsewhere for it's parts. The correct pedal was found after 2 searches 'out back', and a stitch guide was never found. Then I was rushed for a decision as the people for her normal crochet class had arrived. I did buy the machine which will probably be lovely but feel totally cheated about having paid for a one hour lesson having spent most of it sitting waiting for her to come back.
  • 5/5 from Caroline Clark, attended Sep 2024: Covered everything I needed to get started with my new sewing machine. Lots of opportunities to ask questions and the session was flexible and tailored to my requirements. Very helpful, knowledgeable lady who gave me some great tips. Thank you so much!
  • 5/5 from Caelyn Pagliari, attended Jul 2024: My daughter has special needs, but really wanted to learn the basics of sewing to start herself off. Hobbycraft went above and beyond. She got to practice a lot, walked away with practice fabrics and felt so much more confident sitting in front of a sewing machine by the end of the lesson. Could not recommend this more!
  • 5/5 from Pauline, attended May 2024: We went to a sewing machine 1-1 class as just bought a sewing machine. The lady taking the class was extremely patient, Helpful & knowledgeable. We came away feeling like a lot was learned. Excited to put skills learned into practice!
  • 5/5 from Julie Shepherd, attended May 2024: I wanted some tips on how to sew stretch material and what sort of machine I'd need. Nicole was great and answered all my questions and more. Very impressed with her and the service I received. Having experts available to ask questions and learn from was exactly what I needed. Please, please keep offering these lessons because I will be back. Thank you Nicole.
  • 5/5 from Sabrina Parker, attended Feb 2024: I booked my daughter in for her 14th birthday. Shes keen to learn the basics of her sewing machine and how to just do basic stitching. The teacher Stacey was amazing. She gave my daughter so much confidence and gave her good knowledge and understanding (i also learnt a thing or two). We were given some practise sheets which were fab and Stacey was really encouraging and was happy for us to pop back into see her should we have any problems and to show off what she had achieved. Would definatly recommend this workshop if you are starting out it has given my daughter real enthuisasum.

My tutor was brilliant, exceptional expertise and yet still able to go right back to the basics of getting started with sewing and explain everything at a level perfect for me. • 5/5 from Jacquie Hunt, attended Sep 2021: I was quite nervous about the session as it had been so long since I used an electric sewing machine, but Stacie was absolutely brilliant. She showed me how to use my challenging sewing machine, and has given me confidence to start using it. I learnt various stitches and how to use the attachments. Well worth the money for the 1-to-1 lesson, and I now have training sheets to practice with. Well done Stacie and Hobbycraft!
