One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Charlotte, attended Apr 2025: Whilst I'm reasonably confident in using a sewing machine, I wanted to get to know more of the features and functions of a machine and learn some techniques. I learnt about making an automatic button hole. Going over minor issues I've had with my machine whilst asking some general questions. Whilst I wanted to know a little more about reading a paper pattern, my tutor Claire was very helpful. It wasn't her particular area of expertise but she was willing to go through things with me and we muddled through it! Claire was very receptive and friendly - she gave great advice. A good basic course for those starting out - can highly recommend. Thank you

My daughter has come away very happy and with the confidence to practice her technique before starting her dress making journey.

She demonstrated to me and then got me to give it a go as well. She is a world of knowlegde, i have walk away so much more confident with my machine and have sorted out all teh problems i have had. • 5/5 from Ailsa, attended Jul 2024: Claire was lovely and very helpful in helping me to understand how to use a sewing machine. I haven't used one before, so it was very daunting as a person trying it for the first time. She helped me understand how to thread the needle and bobbin, which the bobbin part confused me the most, trying to thread with the needle She also showed me all of the stitches and how to do them. Very handy to know that hobbycraft are able to do workshops for you to understand the basics of what you want to know.

  • 5/5 from Emma Peters, attended Dec 2023: Gemma is a true asset to your business. She was able to keep my daughter engaged for 1 hour whilst she taught her the basics around the Hobbycraft 12s. By the end of the session, my daughter was fully up and running and inspired. It was well worth the £20 for the session - thank you! I think Hobbycraft should push this more via advertising, schools focus so much on academic progress and finding somewhere where my daughter can explore her creativity and passion for craft is a total winner in my book. We will be back. Thank you again!
  • 5/5 from Aurelie Aston, attended Nov 2023: Claire was really nice and put me at ease. Ran through all the basics. The little teaching fabric was useful. I had a go at home and was pleased to find I could apply everything even on my ancient sewing machine. I recommend.

  • 5/5 from Kate Arnold, attended Aug 2023: My 10 year old daughter received a sewing machine for her birthday and having this 1-hour tutorial gave her the confidence to come home, take the machine out of its packaging and set it up herself and get going with some sewing! So much better than trying to work it out for ourselves! Gemma was really clear with her instructions and very helpful and positive and gave us some good tips such as the best cotton to use. It was great that I could sit and watch and ask questions so I could support my daughter if she made an error or forgot something Gemma told her. A really worthwhile investment for anyone just starting out with a sewing machine.

Nalda was patient and encouraging, always giving words of wisdom and top tips. Thank you!
  • 4/5 from Rachel Barnett, attended Apr 2023: The teacher was very helpful and yes I would go back and have a lesson with her when I get a bit more practice. The Place was quite nice but the music above your head was a bit distracting as being a bit def was the only thing I would say put me off. The glass was very good I felt confident when I left I could load my sewing machine.
