Hello! I’m a Tanzanian illustrator and the founder of Seronga Art est 2020. My practice grew out of a love for colour, pattern and storytelling, and has always been heavily influenced by my African heritage. I have delivered creative art and illustration workshops with organisations including CEF Zanzibar and The Element Project in the UK.
My workshops are designed to be playful and accessible rather than intimidating. I like giving people creative prompts and techniques that get them out of their own heads whether that's drawing without looking at the page, experimenting with mark-making or building a portrait through colour, fabric and collage.
I’m particularly interested in helping people discover their own visual language rather than teaching everyone to make the same thing. The best part is seeing how differently everyone interprets the same starting point. I also think there's something quite liberating about my approach to art: more is more! I want people to feel that they are allowed to experiment, clash colours, layer materials and make something completely their own.
My work has been featured internationally across art, design, architecture and cultural publications, including Aesthetica Magazine, The Architects’ Journal, The Art Newspaper, FAD Magazine and The Citizen Tanzania.
