Discover a playful, creative approach to printmaking using recycled materials such as Tetrapak drinks cartons, fabric, aluminium foil, and cardboard, guided by artist and printmaker Stella Yarrow. This course combines structured technical learning with experimentation, helping you develop confidence and explore sustainable methods of image-making. Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists, you will learn how to combine print techniques to produce original and expressive prints to take home.
What You’ll Learn
  • Cut, tear, peel and score Tetrapak cartons to create imagery, then ink and print using a professional printing press
  • Create textured prints using recycled materials such as fabric, aluminium foil, cardboard, plastic nets and bubble wrap
  • Incorporate natural materials, including dried leaves and feathers, into printmaking processes
  • Explore shape, colour and composition through practical studio exercises
  • Learn how to use printmaking tools, equipment and materials safely
  • Understand registration techniques for multi-layer prints and ways to combine processes for layered results
All teaching focuses on non-toxic, environmentally responsible printmaking using sustainable materials. Recycled materials are provided, but you may also bring your own materials after discussion with the tutor.

Course Structure
Week 1
Introduction to Tetrapak. Learn different ways to create marks on Tetrapak, ink the plate and produce an experimental print using the printing press.
Week 2
Design and create a Tetrapak print. Add colour using chine-collé (bonding delicate coloured paper to the print).
Week 3
Introduction to printmaking using other recycled materials.
Week 4
Explore recycled materials further and learn how to combine them with Tetrapak in one print.
Week 5
Develop personal ideas using your own choice of materials and techniques.
Note: The September course pauses for half term from 26 October to 1 November and resumes the following week.
