2 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests

  £30 - £100 (£30 for Public class; £50 for Private class; £100 for Private class for 2)

Come along to this hands-on pottery workshop at Sophie Ambelas Ceramics where you'll learn how to create your very own beautiful pottery piece from scratch. You'll get to choose between making a unique mug or a lovely bowl, hand-building it yourself and decorating it with colour. Afterwards, your creation will be professionally fired and glazed for you, all included in the price, ready for you to take home and use.
This friendly activity is perfect for absolute beginners, so don't worry if you've never touched clay before! It's all about getting your hands dirty and expressing your creativity in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. You're even welcome to bring your own drinks along if you fancy sipping while you sculpt.
You'll be guided through the hand-building techniques needed to shape your mug or bowl. You’ll work directly with the clay, feeling its texture and learning how to form it, before adding your own personal touch with colourful decorations. The whole experience is designed to be enjoyable and satisfying.
Leaving the workshop, you'll feel the pride of having learned a new skill and created something totally unique with your own hands. Plus, you’ll soon have your very own finished, glazed piece to collect – a wonderful reminder of your creative session and a functional piece of pottery to cherish.

I started working with clay because of its therapeutic qualities. It has a way of allowing you to heal by just being present! Initially I made just for myself and then I started to exhibit and sell my work through galleries. I come from a creative background and also an education background. It was therefore a natural step to start teaching pottery and help others to have the same calming experience that comes with handling clay.
I am a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, a very special guild promoting the progress of crafts and designers. I am also a member of ArtCan a collective of artists. My personal work is sculptural and explores the idea of movement and mixed media.
