Pottery mug making in two hours at this pottery class in Waterloo London

2 hours Location Waterloo Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 2 to 30   £55 - £110 (£55 for 1 person public; £110 for 1 person private)

Pottery classes in central London : In this hands-on pottery workshop in Waterloo London, you'll learn how to hand-build your very own unique coffee cup using clay. Over the course of two hours, you'll craft a personalised mug that you can use and treasure for years to come.
If you've never worked with clay before, don't worry - this class is suitable for all skill levels. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you'll discover how satisfying it can be to shape and form your own creation from a simple lump of clay.
During the session, you'll
  • Use hand-building techniques to form your mug
  • Add personal touches like handles, textures, and design elements
  • Decorate your cup with underglazes provided in the workshop
As you work with the clay, you might find yourself pleasantly absorbed in the tactile process, enjoying the feel of the material in your hands as your mug takes shape.
By the end of the class, you'll have completed your unique coffee cup, ready for glazing and firing. You'll leave your masterpiece with us for this final process, and in just three weeks, you'll be able to collect your finished mug - or have it posted to you for an additional £10.
This enriching experience will not only teach you a new skill but also provide you with a one-of-a-kind mug to enjoy your favourite hot beverage in. It's a chance to step away from mass-produced items and create something truly personal - a little piece of art for your daily routine.
Note : Except the beige colour black splashed mug, the other images are from our students.

  • 4/5 from Alexia Genet, attended Aug 2026: Bora was very kind and made sure we were happy with our mugs (he fixed the little quirks!). It was quite a fun experience and brings your inner child out! Very much recommended!
  • 4/5 from Tasha Pickering, attended Aug 2026: Very good class! Public workshop on 6 people. Lots of fun rolling out the clay, cutting the pieces and learning how to make the mug. Especially liked the splatter painting though did get it on my clothes a bit. That thankfully came off. Would say it did feel a bit rushed especially with smoothing the clay and putting the pieces together but he was working in a 2hr time frame.
  • 5/5 from Lisa Devine, attended Jun 2026: Such a fun class! Our instructor, Bora, and their assistant were very kind, tallented and would help ensure our mugs would end up functional. It was just my sister and I, so it felt like a 1-2-1 teaching. The class itself was really fun - we rolled out the clay, cut shapes, learn to smooth and join the different components together, stamped letters into the base, painted the mugs and then also paint splattered the mugs! I think it would be a bit of a squeeze with more people in the room, but I'm sure it will still be a fun experience. To get to the classroom, you need to go up metal stairs that have a "no tresspassing" sign at the top - don't be off put by this!
  • 5/5 from Abigail Clarke, attended May 2026: Great personal experience, very knowledgeable and flexible. Kind and patient, there to facilitate whatever you want to achieve!

Would defo recommend it to my friends!

  • 5/5 from Hilary Metcalf, attended Nov 2025: Lovely teachers, teaching us well and explaining what we were doing and why. All very smiley! And also gently sorting us out when things were going wrong (like me making a hole in my nearly finished mug). Even more fun decorating the mug and seeing the different artistic choices we all made. Maximum class size is eight (we were five) which means you get all the personal attention you want. Aprons provided. a word of warning for less mobile: the workshop is up a long flight of steep steps.

  • 5/5 from Phoebe Williams, attended Aug 2025: Really enjoyed this class - went with two friends and it was just the three of us in the session. The teachers were so lovely and helpful and gave useful guidance, suggestions and hands-on help where we needed it as we hadn't done much hand building before. Such a nice way to spend a few hours and we're really happy with the pieces we made!

Doppiocotto was founded in 2013 by Bora Cetin, a ceramic artist deeply passionate about his craft, dedicating long hours to shaping each piece by hand.
Focusing on form and material, Doppiocotto produces modern, original, and finely crafted pieces. The brand explores the harmony of contrasts by adding movement to simple forms and stillness to dynamic shapes, incorporating a playful touch to bring joy to people’s everyday lives.
The story behind the brand name comes from the Italian word 'Doppiocotto' which means 'double-cooked', linked with the production process.
The clay goes through two firing processes. After the shaping phase comes the drying and baking phase. This is called biscuit. Then the glaze is applied on it and it is fired again. This is how the finished product is reached.
