Pottery Taster Class: Wheel Throwing and Hand Building

Enjoy an hour each of wheel throwing and hand building at this beginner friendly pottery class in Balham.

2 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests       £50 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Join this pottery wheel and hand-building class in Balham and get ready to get hands-on with clay in a relaxed, friendly environment. Over two hours, you'll explore the basics of crafting bowls and cylinders, splitting your time between the potter's wheel and traditional hand-building techniques. With a maximum of eight people per session, you'll have plenty of space to learn and connect with fellow makers while a professional tutor guides you through every spin and sculpt.
During this session, you'll typically create between two and four pieces, making it a fantastic way for first-timers to spark their interest in ceramics. Whether you come with a friend or head along solo to meet some like-minded people, the focus is entirely on having fun and enjoying the tactile nature of working with clay.
What's included:
  • Professional instruction – Learn from a seasoned potter who will guide you through the process.
  • Two hours of guided making – Spend an hour at the wheel and an hour hand-building.
  • Two finished pieces – You'll finish the session with one wheel-thrown masterpiece and one hand-built creation.
  • Firing and glazing options – Choose to enjoy the making process for £50, add bisque firing for £5, or opt to decorate and glaze your work for an additional fee (£10 per hour).
  • Collection – Your items will be ready to pick up within 21 days, and we'll keep them for another 30 days.
This low-pressure workshop is a wonderful way to switch off from the daily grind and find your flow. You'll finish the class feeling inspired by your new skills and ready to show off your unique handmade keepsakes.
Please note: If you choose to have your items fired and glazed, you will need to return to the studio to collect them once they have been through the kiln.
