Portia Gibson

I'm Portia and I run Thimble Works London. I run sewing classes and workshops for both adults and children. I learnt to sew whilst at university, and went on to study Bespoke Tailoring at Newham College. After a brief stint on Savile Row, I moved into costume tailoring, working for film, T.V. and theatre. I started Thimble Works London as I wanted to share my love of sewing with others. I'm a firm believer that you will only really grow to love sewing if you're allowed to make things you love (even if they are a bit ambitious!) One of the first things I ever made was a pair of trousers with welt pockets. It was tricky, and they didn't turn out perfectly, but it taught me lots of skills, and I got to make something I actually liked and wore. My aim is that everyone who comes through the doors of Thimble Works goes home with something they are proud of, having learnt a new skill and most of all had fun doing it!
