An Introduction to Pixel Mosaics with Amy Exton. This is a great introductory session if you’re keen to learn the basics of pixel mosaics, but also good fun for anyone who likes to try their hand at new crafts.
Amy will provide you with a choice of fun templates to work from - including some spooky Halloween designs - and a selection of colourful recycled glass mosaic tiles. Using your template as a guide, you'll apply your tiles onto a grid pattern on a wooden base. It's similar to following a cross-stitch pattern - nice and simple but very therapeutic.
This workshop uses machine-cut tiles, so there's no messy cutting involved. This makes it suitable for both adults and kids, recommended for ages 7+ but also suitable for younger kids if they're crafty (at parents' discretion).
What you'll get
You'll take home your own 10cm tile, which can be used as a coaster or mini artwork.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2012 with a BA in fine art, I built a successful career in set and interior design before deciding to retrain. I wanted to break away from the fast-paced and wasteful production industry, and master a traditional craft where I could use my hands to make something beautiful.
I landed on mosaic, as it's a craft which ties into my interior design practice, and I fell in love with the process instantly. The beauty of mosaic is that there really are no shortcuts, making it slow-paced and mindful, and you can also see the hand of the maker in each tile, making each creation truly unique.
I've since been classically trained at the London School of Mosaic, where I was taught the traditional Roman, Byzantine and neo-classical methods of working, as well as an in-depth history of the craft. I now work on custom mosaic commissions in my cosy Margate studio (with my dog Presley sleeping beside me) and my work borrows from the rich history of the ornamental arts while integrating my contemporary signature style.
I began running mosaic workshops last year locally in Margate, keen to share what I'd learn with everyone. The workshops proved really popular, and I've since been invited to host corporate team-bonding workshops - including regular events for an international bank based in Canary Wharf - as well as for private parties and events.
