Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Holly Cunningham, attended Oct 2026: Vicky was amazing! So helpful and knowledgeable! Didn’t make me feel stupid for any of my questions, would definitely recommend.
  • 5/5 from Mandy Woolford, attended Aug 2026: I had my first sewing lesson with Sophie today, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. She was incredibly patient, friendly, and easy to get on with, which made me feel relaxed and confident from the start. Sophie answered all of my questions thoroughly and demonstrated each technique clearly, so I always knew exactly what to do. The lesson was fun, informative, and tailored to my pace, which really helped build my confidence. We made a scrunchie during my lesson after which, I returned home and made 2 more. I’m looking forward to getting lots of practise using the technics that I’ve learned, and I will definitely be booking another lesson with Sophie. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable and encouraging session! My photo shows two scrunchies. The one on the left I made at home. The one on tge right I made furring my lesson with Sophie.

  • 5/5 from Angela Dunbar, attended Feb 2026: The class with Josh was Amazing! I booked this 1:1 workshop for my 10 year old granddaughter who is creative and enthusiastic to learn to sew. She loved every minute and as a total beginner came away with knowledge on how to thread a sewing machine, sew using different stitches and made a bookmark with pretty fabric and trim. Josh is a natural teacher who explained everything in detail with such patience, and made the workshop fun. I’m sure we will return for another session when my granddaughter next visits….but only with Josh. Many thanks, and would totally recommend.
  • 5/5 from Lois, attended Feb 2026: Allysia was fantastic this morning showing my 12 year old daughter how to thread and then use a sewing machine. Allysia was patient and kind, happy to repeat instructions and lead by example. My daughter was really happy to come away from the lesson with a machine we had learnt how to use and could use again at home. Thank you Allysia. I’m sure we’ll be back to be shown how to use our new machine in more detail as confidence grows!

  • 5/5 from Tracy Felstead, attended Jun 2025: Great tutorial - Josh was patient and knowledgeable: taking me through how to set up and use the sewing machine and giving me many useful tips. It has given me the confidence to be able to get going quickly with a new sewing machine.
  • 3/5 from Alison Leighfield, attended Jul 2024: It took 9 mths to get a sewing machine tutorial at Salisbury and I was unable to activate 25% off, so i paid full price. The tutor was very lovely, and I was her 1st ever pupil. A combination of the sewing machine not having been checked beforehand and was faulty, meant we wasted a lot of time. An extra 45 mins was added to the session because of this.
