• 5/5 from Paulina, attended Jun 2025: I cannot recommend the crochet retreat enough. The pattern to work is addictive; and it was so lovely to have friendly assistance/feedback while choosing my colors to commence making my piece. While I do purchase patterns and support crochet designers with donations, I am quite used to gaining as much knowledge as I can as frugally as possible, such as checking out books from the library. I don’t regret one bit the cost of the retreat — and this from a thrifty New Yorker! While some of the stitches were already familiar, there really is nothing like having in-person assistance to confirm prior knowledge, to have guidance when needed, to have an experienced eye to check tension, to, of course, gain instruction on something new — and for when something went awry, to offer constructive solutions in order to carry on. This is key — of course one can go onto the internet and/or look up stitches and patterns on YouTube, or get help in forums. But it’s fantastic to not only support an independent studio, but at the same time, get that help when needed — rather than scroll past ads to see the next stitch progression; or pause and play, pause and play, pause and play again and again, a video to try and learn something new. And I must say — working on this pattern, and these new stitches, has ignited possibilities for designing my own bags! The studio is most charming; and the hours flew by. It really felt like a retreat. I was so engrossed I didn’t even eat lunch — which is astonishing, as it takes something truly spectacular to come between me and my food, and I actually was hungry — and once home, I carried on working. It’s so great to have new stitches to confidently incorporate into future projects — and also, memories of a lovely afternoon spent learning them. Thank you, Nessa, for demystifying stitches I was hesitant to attempt, and thank you, Four Otter!

Very clear explanations of some difficult stitches, brilliant for building confidence (first time I’ve managed to complete this style of crochet successfully). Finished an “apprentice piece” on the day and have taken away a solid understanding of the techniques needed for the pattern. Would recommend unreservedly.
