Join this exclusive MasterMaker metalsmithing workshop at FORGE in London, led by renowned makers Paul Wells and Anastasia Young during London Craft Week. As authors of "New Jewellery Techniques" and pioneers of the innovative curved score and fold technique, they offer a unique opportunity to explore the exciting possibilities of creating beautiful three-dimensional forms from sheet metal using wire-scoring methods.
This special activity is part of the MasterMaker Series at FORGE, dedicated to exceptional design, skill preservation, and knowledge sharing. Limited to just 10 participants, these events provide an intimate and exclusive experience with highly accomplished designers. Over five captivating hours, you'll benefit from the MasterMakers' direct guidance through insightful talks, live demonstrations, and a hands-on workshop.
Your day will begin with Paul Wells and Anastasia Young sharing insights into their unique practices and the curved score and fold technique. You'll have the chance to examine inspiring samples and maquettes, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of their intricate work.
Following this, you'll participate in an in-depth workshop where you'll learn how to apply the curved score and fold technique yourself. Starting with paper maquettes to grasp the principles, you'll then progress to creating several copper samples. The focus is on exploring the process and discovering the design potential this technique unlocks. You'll receive expert advice, troubleshoot ideas, and discuss how you might incorporate these methods into your own creative practice.
The day concludes perfectly with a relaxed chat, allowing you to mingle with the instructors and fellow participants over complimentary wine and delicious sushi. You'll leave this insightful session not only with your sample creations but also with fresh inspiration and a deeper understanding of this unique metalworking technique.
