What you'll do
In this exciting one day class, you will learn how to use traditional jewellery making techniques, including sawing, soldering, shaping, and texturing to make a beautiful and unique silver, spinning ring.This workshop is an excellent introduction to jewellery making, covering a variety of traditional techniques to kickstart your creative journey. With step-by-step demonstrations and personalised guidance from the tutor, you’ll be supported throughout the process.What will I make?You will make your own beautiful and unique silver spinning ring.What will happen on the day?At the start of the session, you’ll have the opportunity to meet your fellow makers and explore inspiring examples of the pieces you’ll be creating. All materials and tools, including silver, will be provided.You’ll begin by making the larger band, selecting from a range of beautiful textures and different widths. Next, you’ll cut the metal to size, shape it into a ring, and solder it securely. Following this, you’ll create one or two inner rings, which can feature plain, textured, or twisted designs.Once all the rings are made and cleaned, you’ll assemble them by placing the inner rings onto the larger band and flaring the edges using doming punches. Finally, you’ll clean and polish your finished piece to perfection.This workshop is an excellent introduction to jewellery making, covering a variety of traditional techniques to kickstart your creative journey. With step-by-step demonstrations and personalised guidance from the tutor, you’ll be supported throughout the process.What should I wear?Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose-fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught while you are working.Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open-toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!Hair: Tie long hair back.Who is my instructor?Rachael Plassard.
