You'll start by choosing your design, whether that's one of the festive templates on offer or something entirely your own, drawing on traditional Christmas motifs, winter scenes, ornaments, Christmas trees, or whatever festive idea takes your fancy. Along the way, you'll pick up the basics of linocut printmaking – the tools, the materials, and the carving techniques – and learn how composition, positive and negative space, lines, shapes, and silhouettes come together to create a strong festive design.
You'll then transfer your chosen Christmas design onto a linoleum block and carve it step by step, exploring different carving marks, textures, and visual effects along the way. Once your block is ready, you'll learn how to ink it up and create prints by hand, turning your carved design into a set of beautifully handmade linocut Christmas cards to send to friends and family, or simply keep as festive artwork of your own.
By the end, you'll leave with your own hand-carved lino printing block, ready to use again and again, plus a collection of handmade Christmas prints and cards. Whether you're completely new to lino printing or just after a creative Christmas workshop in London, this is a relaxed, beginner-friendly way to make something personal and festive this year.
