Learn to draw portraits with an experienced drawing teacher from the comfort of your home in this four-part drawing course online.

You'll learn how to draw using time tested and proven methods combined with modern techniques. Guided by an expert drawing tutor, you'll develop your drawing skills throughout your course, finishing your drawing experience with the skills you need to confidently draw portraits.

This drawing course covers all the essential elements required to get you confident in drawing portraits. All aspects of portrait drawing will be covered and you'll learn everything from how to begin a portrait to how to complete a fully rendered drawing.

Following a systematic approach, you'll be guided through your drawing course step-by-step by your teacher. You'll be shown a range of detailed examples on how to simplify complex information like proportion, anatomy and construction of the head. You'll then learn how to visualise and draw the basic structure of the head and skull, how to draw the major features of the eyes, nose, mouth and ears.

Bringing together almost 300 years of traditional art techniques and modern learning methods, your teacher will inspire and engage you throughout your class, providing tips and one-to-one feedback as you progress through your learning.

As part of your drawing course, you'll find out all about visual abstraction – a method of drawing which has its roots in the ateliers of the 18th-19th century art schools where students were taught the importance of proportion, shapes, edges and values.

Lively group discussion will be encouraged, enabling you to learn from your peers and build your skills and knowledge.

By the end of this online drawing course, you'll have the confidence to draw portraits successfully by yourself.

Chris originally studied at Falmouth University of the Arts. After leaving university he started studying at London Fine Art Studios in 2012 before being asked to teach at London Fine Art Studios in 2015. The studios taught Chris the traditional craft of drawing and painting which gives the students the tools to draw and paint anything using the method of visual abstraction. This method breaks down what we see into simple elements of shapes values and edges, with these tools Chris went onto win various awards. These include winning runner up young artist award and the John Purcell paper award at the Pastel Society, exhibiting there in both 2013 and 2015.

Chris competed in the Sky Arts portrait artist of the year 2014 and was recently asked to exhibit in the Federation of British Artists, Futures exhibition in 2016 winning the Jacksons One To Watch prize.

Chris currently teaches at City Literary Institute, University of the Creative Arts and privately both in person and extensively online, having developed a wide range of skill sets to teach his craft of traditional drawing and painting.
