Join us for this festive twist on our signature Beginners Kintsugi repair workshop!
Celebrate the season with a calming and mindful workshop introducing you to the practise of Kintsugi repair. You will learn the fundamentals of traditional repair and materials and practise your skills on a piece of hand-made stoneware. Then moving on to repair your very own ceramic ornaments using hand-blended French bronze powder. Perfect as gifts, or to adorn your own tree.
We keep our workshop sizes small and cosy so that you get the opportunity for plenty of guidance. Because of this, spaces are limited, so booking ahead is recommended!
What is Kintsugi?
This Japanese ceramic repair technique using gold and bronze powders to create stunning repair lines originated during the 15th century and has evolved to become a beloved art form adopted by modern artists and restoration specialists alike. Kintsugi means 'to join with gold' and is the artistic embodiment of the Wabi-sabi philosophy which emphasises the beauty of imperfection. In our Beginners Kintsugi Workshop, we practise modern-hybrid repair methods, providing each attendee with all the materials and guidance they need to leave the session with a beautiful repaired piece of their own. If you have ever wondered about the history, philosophy and techniques behind this fascinating practise, this workshop is for you!
Your Instructor:
The workshop will be led by a trained historic conservator ready to answer all of your questions about traditional and modern kintsugi repair. Our goal for this session is to leave you with the confidence to execute your repairs at home, in addition to taking away a beautiful completed repair at the end.
The most perfectly 'imperfect' festive activity to ease you into the holidays!
Please note that while our studio is located on the ground floor, with no stairs, there are several narrow doorways to navigate. Please message ahead so that we can be sure to accommodate any special needs you might have.
