And Just Keep on Stitching

You'll soon start to see your quilt growing beneath your hands

Discover the meditative magic of Kawandi slow-stitch quilting in this lovely three-hour introduction to a beautiful hand-stitching technique. You'll learn to build a miniature quilt using traditional methods, working at a calm, structured pace that lets you switch off from the chaos of everyday life and sink into the rhythm of making.
You'll be working with vibrant, quirky fabrics hand-picked by Michele from her travels around the world. Choosing your colours and patterns is part of the fun, and each fabric you select tells a story. As you stitch, you'll understand how each patch contributes to the bigger picture, building both your quilt and your confidence in the technique. Whether you've never picked up a needle before or you've been making for years, you'll find the instruction clear, the tuition expert, and the whole atmosphere wonderfully relaxed and supportive.
By the end of the three hours, you'll have a beautifully started textile work of art – one that's entirely your own and ready to take home.
What you'll get
By the end of the workshop you'll have the beginnings of your own hand-stitched quilt to take away with you. You'll have the materials and the knowledge and skills to carry on and complete it at home.

Slow Stitch Whimsy - Tales with Cloth and Thread
Slow Stitch Whimsy - Tales with Cloth and Thread

female Women-owned

In a cosy corner of London, tucked between the hum of everyday life and the soft rustle of fabric scraps, there exists a small, enchanted world called Slow Stitch Whimsy.
It began long ago, with a little girl in South Yorkshire who stitched an apron and baked fairy cakes for a country show. She didn’t win medals, but she won something far more enduring: a lifelong belief that imagination is a loyal companion, and that making things by hand is a kind of quiet magic.
That girl grew into Michele - a maker who wandered through realms of paper mâché, embroidery, clay creatures, woolly inventions, and all manner of curious creations. Yet no matter how far she roamed, thread always tugged her home.
Sometimes gently, like a whisper. Sometimes boldly, like a mischievous nudge. Sometimes with the unmistakable feeling that a scrap of fabric had tapped her on the shoulder and said, “You’re needed. A story wants telling.”
And so Slow Stitch Whimsy was born: a place where cloth and thread are not just materials, but characters; where colours carry memories; where found objects bring their own histories; and where nothing - absolutely nothing - is ever “wrong”.
Here, creativity is not a performance. It’s an adventure.
Every Kawandi quilt becomes a map of tiny decisions. Every patchwork piece becomes a clue. Every stitch becomes a moment of listening - to the cloth, to the imagination, to the quiet parts of ourselves that speak only when our hands are busy.
Workshops at Slow Stitch Whimsy are gentle sanctuaries. People arrive carrying the noise of the world, and leave carrying something softer:
  • a sense of calm they didn’t expect
  • a spark of playfulness they thought they’d lost
  • a piece of work that feels unmistakably theirs
  • and the strange, delightful feeling that threads whispered to them too
Because they do. They always do.
Slow Stitch Whimsy is for anyone who has ever felt the pull of colour, the comfort of cloth, or the thrill of making something that didn’t exist before. It’s for the curious, the hesitant, the brave, the playful, the weary, the joyful - and for anyone who wants to rediscover the magic of taking time for themselves.
Follow the thread. It already knows your name.
And somewhere along the way, you may find yourself stitching a story you didn’t know you were ready to tell.
