Jon was always interested to know how things worked and became a mechanical engineer in his early life.

When he opened up a watch for the first time, he was amazed at how all those tiny parts could fit into such a small space and work with such simplicity and precision. That’s where his passion for watchmaking began.

Jon trained for two years at Epping Forest Horology Centre (EFHC) and spent many hours in his home workshop furthering his passion, knowledge and experience with more esoteric and complicated watches. Five years ago, he wrote and taught a set of courses and taster days for first and second-year students at EFHC.

Two years ago, he realised that no one taught the dying art of watchmaking in London, so he set up his own workshop in South London to be able to teach watchmaking taster days, and to enable those interested in the fascinating world of horology to dip their toes in and experience what a watchmaker does every day.

He also teaches courses to complete beginners, as well as to the more seasoned horologists and professionals. Jon has collaborated with and taught watchmakers from Christopher Ward Watches, Mr. Jones Watches and Camden Watch Company, as well as students who want to learn how to service their own watches. He loves being able to share his knowledge and passion for watchmaking with others.

Jon never tires of opening up a watch and witnessing their stories and history, then returning them to life. He believes that watches are more than just wheels, cogs and springs, they need love and attention to be able to breathe life back into them.

Jon believes that watchmaking is love made visible.

Jon is an oracle of watches and watchmaking.

He is a warm and friendly chap who has a great setup for teaching, from an amazing array of tools at your disposal, to height adjustable desks, microscopes, etc etc etc.

I had a wonderful day and he made the complex understandable and the skill set attainable.

Many Thanks
Roger

Teacher's response
