Jon was always interested to know how things worked and became a mechanical engineer in his early life.
When he opened up a watch for the first time, he was amazed at how all those tiny parts could fit into such a small space and work with such simplicity and precision. That’s where his passion for watchmaking began.
Jon trained for two years at Epping Forest Horology Centre (EFHC) and spent many hours in his home workshop furthering his passion, knowledge and experience with more esoteric and complicated watches. Six years ago, he wrote and taught a set of evening courses and weekend taster days for students at EFHC.
Four years ago, he realised the need to teach the dying art of watchmaking in London, so he set up his own well equipped workshop and created London Watchmaking School where he and other professional watchmakers teach watchmaking taster days and evening courses to enable those interested in the world of horology to dip their toes in and experience what a watchmaker does every day.
At the London Watchmaking School weekly evening courses are also taught to complete beginners, as well as to the more seasoned horologists and professionals. Jon has collaborated with and taught watchmakers from Christopher Ward Watches, Mr. Jones Watches and Camden Watch Company and watch service centres across London, as well as students who want to learn how to service their own watches. He loves being able to share his knowledge and passion for watchmaking with others.
Jon never tires of opening up a watch and witnessing their stories and history, then returning them to life. He believes that watches are more than just wheels, cogs and springs, they need love and attention to be able to breathe life back into them.
Either Jon, Rob or Kyle will be hosting the taster day. All of these professional watchmakers are equally passionate about what they teach.
Rob (FBHI) brings his own expertise and love for watchmaking, which he is excited to share with you.
Kyle is one of the new kids on the block of young wave of watchmakers fresh back from two years of watchmaker training in Geneva, Switzerland and now works for a high end watch company.
He has recently joined the team and is passionate to share his knowledge with you during the taster day.
Watchmaking truly is love made visible!
