Discover Ikebana in Greenwich, London, the Japanese art of floral arrangement, taught in the Ohara School style over a relaxed 90-minute class. This is far more than flower arranging. It's a calm, focused practice of design, seasonality and balance, and a hands-on way to switch off and make something beautiful. All materials are provided, and you'll take your flowers home with you.
Over the session, you'll learn the foundations of Ohara School Ikebana, including line, space, balance and seasonality. You'll discover how to build a harmonious arrangement by following natural growth patterns, and you'll pick up practical techniques you can repeat at home, so this is a skill you can keep building rather than a one-off experience.
This class is made for total beginners who'd like a clear, guided introduction, and for anyone drawn to Japanese culture, nature or mindful making. It's also a friendly alternative to louder, more crowded workshops, offering a quieter space to slow down and focus. Ikebana isn't about filling a vase. It's about restraint, intention and letting the season lead, which is why it's so often linked to a more tranquil way of living. The Ohara School, established in 1895, is known for modern styles that capture natural landscapes and the feeling of the season.
Your teacher, Anli, is a 3rd Master of the Ohara School with over ten years of training under recognised masters, including time spent studying in Japan. Her teaching pairs precise technique with cultural context, bringing Ikebana to life well beyond decoration. She is also authorised by the Ohara School to apply for florist qualifications for her students once they complete the required course levels.
You'll leave with a finished arrangement you've created yourself and the confidence to recreate it at home. Complete eight classes and you'll also earn a certificate to mark your progress.

We are Yiqing and Yang, Chinese tea and incense lovers for over 30 years. We established an Asian culture centre - Amitabha Garden, in 2014 by the Thames riverside. We want to share our passion for chemical-free Chinese incense made by ourselves and authentic Chinese tea from our own tea field with Westerners.
Amitabha Garden grew out of traditional Chinese culture and Buddhist philosophy. What began as a small tea space gradually became a cultural home for Chinese tea, traditional arts, and mindful living. Today, our riverside space in Greenwich hosts Chinese tea ceremonies, incense journeys, cultural workshops, and contemplative gatherings inspired by Buddhism, Chinese philosophy, and literati culture. We work with carefully sourced teas, incense, and objects, chosen for their provenance, craftsmanship, and the stories they carry.
