What you'll do
In this workshop, you will be introduced to the ancient craft of blacksmithing and take the first steps towards mastering this rewarding skill. Learn how to heat, bend, shape, and finish metal under the guidance of a skilled instructor. By the end of the session, you will have created a beautiful handcrafted item to take home as a testament to your newfound skills and creativity.Don't worry if you've never held a hammer before, our skilled tutors will be with you every step of the way! We'll be working on coke and gas forges and making small useful objects that explore as many different techniques as we can fit into the day.Don't worry about not being strong enough, we won't be doing anything too strenuous!

What you'll get
Attendees will make two or three small forged items to take home with them. These might include 'S' hooks, fire pokers, or toasting forks.
What to bring
We'll provide tea, coffee, and water, but attendees should bring lunch as there is nowhere on site or nearby to buy food. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and shoes that cover your whole foot.

The Urban Crafts Foundation is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based at Lambourne End Centre for Outdoor Education in Essex. We specialise in historic metalwork and offer classes to members of the public in blacksmithing, coppersmithing that in turn allow us to run subsidised workshops with young people facing challenges that stop them from thriving in mainstream education. Our work can be see churches, restaurants and private members clubs across the UK. We have also worked with numerous artists to help them realise their visions.
