Learn the art of weaving in our weaving class in Salisbury, held at the picturesque Fisherton Mill in Wiltshire. This two-day workshop is perfect for beginners that want to delve into the world of weaving and create beautiful pieces to take home.
In this class, we will be using table looms to weave finer fabrics that would be suitable for scarves, tea towels, and fashion or furnishing fabrics. While the process may be more complex than frame loom weaving, our two-day workshop ensures that you have enough time to grasp the concepts and techniques fully.
What to expect:
This is quite an intense workshop, and there is a lot to take in over the two days, especially on day one. However, everything you learn is supported with a handout of clear notes, which is yours to make notes on and take home.
Day one: Planning your warp and setting up your loom.
  • The basic principles and terminology of weaving.
  • How to plan and make a warp, wind it onto your loom, and thread the loom up.
Day two: Patterns and weaving.
  • Looking at and documenting patterns.
  • Lots of weaving!
Remember, everyone learns at their own pace, so don't compare yourself to others in the group. Our aim is to ensure that you feel supported and comfortable throughout the workshop.
By the end of the two days, you will take home a series of woven samples that showcase your progress and newfound skills. Our workshops have a maximum of four participants to guarantee ample guidance and support for each person.
Whether you're a complete beginner or have some previous experience, our weaving class in Salisbury is suitable for everyone.
Please let us know of any special needs prior to booking so we can discuss any necessary arrangements.

ELKA is a weaving and natural dye studio based in Hampshire.
Ellie spent a large part of her childhood living abroad and travelling. The vibrant markets of the Middle and Far East triggered her passion for colour, texture and pattern and this influence is expressed through her textiles.
She completed both her BA in Textile Design, specialising in woven textiles, and MA in Design for Textile Futures at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, graduating in 2006.
After graduating, she moved back to Winchester to set up her weaving business which she has been running full time since 2015. In 2018, Claudia started working with the business to produce naturally dyed yarns for Ellie to weave with.
