Introduction to Inkle Loom Weaving Workshop

Learn to weave in this relaxing textile class.

6 hours Class size 1 to 6     label £130

A day-long inkle weaving workshop for beginners will be held between 10am and 4pm in the beautiful setting of Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Inkle looms are used to produce woven bands that can be used as bag straps, guitar straps, shoe laces, hat bands, and decorative trim, just to name a few!

This is a wonderful and practical style of weaving that can be easily grasped in a day. The looms are small, lightweight, and portable, making them a great choice for taking away on trips, moving around the house, or tucking out of the way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The workshop will teach you the basic principles and terminology of weaving on an inkle loom, and you will weave your very own band.

We will cover the following:

  • How to pick the best yarns for weaving.
  • How to plan your warp (all the tension threads that are wound on to the loom before weaving begins).
  • How to dress the loom (prepare the loom for weaving).
  • Lots of weaving!
  • How to secure your band and remove it from the loom.

We start by learning about the best yarns to use and how to plan and record your warp (all the tension threads that are wound on to the loom before weaving begins) before dressing the loom (preparing the loom for weaving), followed by lots of weaving!

Spaces are limited to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those who have a little experience and would like a refresher.

You will have the opportunity to buy a loom at the end of the workshop, and you will find a comprehensive list of suppliers in the resources section of your handout.

Please arrive in good time to ensure you have time to park before the workshop begins.

After graduating, she moved back to Winchester to set up her weaving business which she has been running full time since 2015. In 2018, Claudia started working with the business to produce naturally dyed yarns for Ellie to weave with.
