What you'll do
Learn the ancient craft of blacksmithing in this hands-on half-day blacksmithing workshop in London, where you'll create two forged metal pieces: a rustic steel hook and a fully handcrafted bottle opener.1) Rustic Steel HookBy making this first you will get comfortable with holding and wielding a hammer safely and effectively, and learn how metal moves under pressure. You will have a chance to get experience of how hot to heat the steel, and how to operate a gas forge safely.2) Bottle OpenerYou will then be guided through each step to create a fully forged metal bottle opener - a thing of beauty that you will treasure for life. Should you wish, there is an opportunity to customise your bottle opener at the end of forging, and make it unique to you. Throughout the session, expert instructors will guide you through every step, teaching you how to operate a gas forge safely and showing you exactly what you're doing and why. There's something genuinely special about working with fire and hammer, watching metal transform under your hands. If you want to, there's a chance to customise your bottle opener at the end and make it uniquely yours – adding your own mark to something handmade.Over 3 to 3.5 hours, you'll walk away not just with two pieces you've forged yourself, but with real skills and a profound sense of satisfaction that comes from making something this way. - For the Introduction to Blacksmithing and other non-blade courses, the age limit is 14+, provided a parent or guardian is also booked on the same course, otherwise this limit is also 18+. Upon occasion, we will accept younger candidates onto this course, but this is by prior approval and assessment of individual capabilities and ability to follow safety instructions.
