Intermediate Jewellery Workshop: Keum Boo Masterclass

Add gold highlights to your silver jewellery using Keum Boo - fusing pure gold foil details to your silver designs

7 hours Class size 1 to 3 guests       £155 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

This exciting in-person jewellery making class is held in Camden Town, London NW1.
Some previous experience of making silver jewellery is required so that there is also time for the key part of the day - adding the gold highlights using the technique of Keum Boo.
Keum Boo is an ancient Korean technique that uses a combination of pressure and heat to fuse pure gold into the surface of a piece of silver. The gold foil can be cut into shapes and is applied to the surface of a finished piece of jewellery.
Add to your existing silver or silver clay jewellery making skills, while having a fun day out. Recommended for those who have completed at least one beginners level silver jewellery making course or silver clay jewellery course, or similar.
This course (and all my courses) is designed for adults. I do not currently offer classes for children and teenagers.
During this full-day class, you'll spend the morning creating one or more simple pendant or earring designs in sheet silver or in silver clay, then in the afternoon we will prepare these pieces and use them to add the pure 24ct gold foil details and then give the pieces a final polish and / or apply patination to give a greater contrast to the designs.
Depending on the size of your designs, you will end the day with at least two pendants or pairs of earrings in solid silver, with decorative highlights in gold - to ensure we have time in the afternoon for the Keum Boo - these designs cannot be too large or complex in design - we need to get the basic piece/s finished before lunch!
There will also be a limited selection of previously made blanks to practice the Keum Boo technique on, or you are also welcome to bring your own previously made items that you would like to decorate.
With a small group size of just 3 students, your experienced instructor will guide you through the process, ensuring you feel confident every step of the way.
All the materials you need will be provided, so simply come along on your own or with friends to enjoy a fun and creative day. As you create your custom silver pieces, you'll experience the satisfaction of seeing your designs come to life. By the end of the class, you'll have at least two beautifully polished silver pendants with gold details ready to wear.
Join this relaxing jewellery making class and take home not just your new skills, but also beautiful solid silver jewellery that you can proudly wear or give as a gift. Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn, create, and have a memorable day!
The workshop space is downstairs, so unfortunately difficult to access for anyone with mobility problems - apologies for this inconvenience.
What you'll get
Have a fun day and leave with your own custom-designed solid silver and gold pendants, ready to wear or to gift.
Drinks and snacks are available throughout, and you will also get detailed printed (or emailed) notes to remind you of the processes we've covered if you decide to do more creating after the class.
Lunch is not included, but there are a lot of great cafes close by.
Knowledge required
Intermediate level class. Great for those who have already worked with silver metal clay.
What to bring
Bring yourself, your reading glasses (if you wear them), and please wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals) - everything else is provided.
