My 9 year old daughter had a class with Chloe. She was an excellent teacher, she was patient, kind and really encouraging she kept my daughter engaged for the whole class. I also had my younger 5 year old with me and the staff at Hobbycraft really went above and beyond to keep him entertained with other crafts. 100% booking this class again!

It was February 1/2 term and we couldn’t make the day that the workshops were being held so I requested a private session for my grandchildren. I got a Yes email the very next day and it reminder the day before the class. When we arrived Gemma, the lady running our workshop, was ready for us with canvas and paints. The children loved her bubbly personality and she explained what to do and was very helpful. The children completed their pictures 20 minutes early so Gemma got paper and pens for them to make another picture.
The children went home very pleased with their day and I thought it was great value for money at £8 per child for an hour. Well done!

What a fantastic teacher Penny is. We booked a private class for 2 of us as one was a complete beginner. Penny has the patience of a saint and explained the method over and over again, never losing patience and so very encouraging. She gave us the confidence to have a go and dealt with 2 different ability levels with ease. She helped us to purchase the yarns required and gave us printed instructions to take home. We will definitely be booking with Penny again, once we have had a little while to practice. We thoroughly recommend her teaching and had a fabulous session. Thank you Penny.

My 3 year old grandson really enjoyed this. Lots of ideas were offered by the leader but he preferred to do his own thing! This was perfectly acceptable. A good variety of craft materials was on offer, but my grandson would have liked some glitter and I think some coloured card or felt could have been useful.
He ended up with 3 very individual christmas cards which he was thrilled with and proudly gave to his Mum, Dad and sister.

The young Lady doing the class was very good. Very clear with instructions and happy to go over it again and help out.
As only 2 kids out if 5 attended there was plenty of clay and lots of time to make all the Christmas Characters. If all the other kids had attended that might not have been the same.

But we did really enjoy the class and will look to do other classes in the future.

I have taken my granddaughter to previous workshops and attended a few myself at different stores. I was disappointed this time for a few reasons:
- the workshop had already started when we arrived (we were not late), the welcome was not great, the staff member didn’t even check who we were.
- I didn’t feel the staff member knew the product, the instructions were poor and she didn’t explain to my granddaughter what she was making and it wasn’t clear to us until finished - she’s 3 years old. At one point she just gave my daughter the instruction manual!
- the staff member kept looking at her watch and telling us another group were coming in making us feel rushed; she also told some of the children not to take too
many of the beads for their decoration as she needed them for the next group!
This has definitely put me off attending further workshops at the Orpington store.

This was a fun activity to do. The woman who ran the class was friendly, fun, pitched it to our exact levels of expertise and relaxed. The materials were good quality and the instructions were easy to follow. The only thing was we didn’t have enough time to complete it. This should have been 1.5 hours long. Would highly recommend this workshop.

Facilitator input minimal. Showed us example and said to use the papers on the table. No interaction with the children at all. An hour was allocated but everyone was finished in 30 minutes. My granddaughter enjoyed the sticking but it was not a very stimulating experience

Penny was a lovely lady. However, the technology did not work and we had to do it on her personal iPhone. There was a piece missing from the cricut machine. I know it’s only 16 for the hour but a LOT of the time was spent trying to make everything work.
I did learn a couple of things but over all I think you can do better Hobbycraft.

Our class was run by Gill who was a very nice lady (a knitter). However she was not the crochet teacher we should have had due to her sickness.
Therefore I feel I didn't get the full experience I paid for.
Also the class should have lasted for 1 hour 30 minutes but ended after an hour. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't think I would have learnt any more in this class.
I would appreciate your comments on this.

My Son enjoyed making the key ring but it was made in less than 15 minutes and there was a restriction on only making one per person so the session felt a bit empty compared to the other workshops we have attended where the contents filled the time properly.

Really enjoyed my sewing machine basics lesson today at Nugent centre Hobbycraft. My tutor showed me all I needed to know about the Hobbycraft 19s sewing machine that I’ve just purchased. She also helped me pick out a dress pattern as I want to make a dress for my Granddaughter.
I will definitely return in the future for another tutorial maybe to get advice with the making of the dress

The tutor, Penny, was fab and the girls learned a lot from her. Made a booking for 5 for a teenage birthday party activity for her. The coasters and kit made great "going home presents" after the party, so I didn't have to get extra gifts. The girls had fun and were proud of their coasters.
It was a little messy, and I had said to parents that the girls may get dirty so not to wear best clothes, and I'd taken plastic aprons for each of them, but they all still managed to get paint on them. Also, the paint takes 48 hours to dry fully, so you do need to be careful taking the artwork home.

The venue is good, it does get really hot in there. Been there a couple of times for the classes and felt really muggy.
The things provided were pretty average. It doesn’t give you much for imagination to be honest. A tiny bit of clay for the rainbow stands and two flexible strips to put beads on.
There were 5 people at the classe and three of us were sharing one box with a bit of beads. The teacher did get some new packs to refill but they were just simple beads with no shapes everyone was looking for.

The teacher was wonderful, we liked the choice of paint too. The only thing we think was missing is some tam plates since my younger girl was a bit confused with what to paint.
The venue was great too. Overall experience was so good that we bought more things to paint and did some painting at home once got back from the class.

Let's face it investing in a cricut is costly. I can highly recommend a 1:1 with Penny at Orpington Hobbycraft before you buy. Penny was a knowledgeable and patient tutor. She answered all my questions and gave very practical advice. I was particularly concerned about using the app and after Penny's tutorial I felt confident I would be able to get the most out of it.

The staff member was really nice and enthusiastic with the children and they enjoyed the session. The materials weren’t great and the children did not make a rainbow the same as the advertised picture which was several pipe cleaners each with a different colour. It was just one pipe cleaner and it didn’t look as effective. The beads seemed like the dregs of leftover stock. The children still enjoyed it and were happy with their rainbows

Me and my son (aged 5) went to this workshop and we both really enjoyed it. He liked opening the box and looking through all the equipment which you get to keep. The teacher was lovely, chatty and patient and gave encouragement along the way. We were really pleased with the end result. This was really a self guided clay workshop - let your imagination run wild. Teacher was not very pro-active but fortunately the children had plenty of their own ideas. Each child was given a bag of air dry clay and use of tools. Tools not explained so not used. Worth the money - not really. Probably cheaper to buy the clay and make pots at home. At least I didn’t have to clean up.

I really enjoyed this Christmas Fillable Bauble Decorations Workshop, this was my first time going to one.
Olivia the teacher was so lovely and helpful with showing us all how to be creative with great ideas! There was so many materials provided to choose from.

The teacher (Olivia) was friendly and welcoming. She also did not dictate what to do which meant we could be creative.
Not all the items were available as expected but this was mainly due to Olivia not being given a guide of what to provide. Once she got the details from our confirmation details she went and collected more items.
1 hour is short especially when not all items available straight away but we still made a couple of items each.
There were four in the group which is a good size. Maybe five max will work.

I would definitely recommend this activity.
The workshop table was located upstairs & at the back of the store.
Penny was my craft tutor who gave me a wreath & a box which contained all my materials plus a glue gun.
Penny gave advice & some ideas and then it was up to me how I decorated it.
It was great fun and I got to take the box with spare materials including the glue gun home.
I was delighted with my finished wreath & hung it up when I got home.
The class cost £35 & I do think it’s good value.

I had a brilliant introductory lesson to sewing with Linda using one of Hobbycraft's machines @ the Orpington branch.

I learned the basics of sewing & quite a bit more, such as different aspects of other machines which would be more beneficial for my needs by helping me to achieve my sewing project goals.

Linda gave clear guidance and explanations along the way so, along with a bit of theory and a lot of actual hands on practice, I feel ready to do another lesson with the right machine in mind.

I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of machines available @ Orpington & look forward to booking my next lesson using the machine I have my eyes on!

My son really enjoyed the arts and crafts session today. The trainer was Terry and his instructions were clear and paced well for the children. He had a lovely manner with the children and made the session fun.

The children finished the activity early (it was supposed to be an hour) so Terry provided a second activity for them to do. I thought this was excellent customer service. All the children really enjoyed the session and we’re happy when they left. Excellent value for money.

The teacher, Linda, was knowledgeable and a very easy person to discuss the training with - she made it all seem doable. She made the nuts and bolts of the machine seem interesting and had good tips on what stitches to use on what type of material. She also asked what projects I had in mind and was very helpful regarding creating patterns from scratch, but also showed me the patterns in store (sadly none of which were large enough but that is just stock issues rather than an issue with the workshop). I will be booking another workshop.

We did the spider making workshop with our 9yr old.
The lady leading the class was great with all the kids of which there was a big mix of ages.
It was simple to follow and really enjoyable. All materials included. Well worth the £5.

The manager ran the workshop today , I’ve always found him very helpful in store and very friendly . He was well prepared and explained what the children should be doing and was very friendly and great with the children . The activity was clay bats and ghosts , my girls enjoyed this very much and brought home their creations as Halloween decorations.

Teacher was great but we didn’t actually do papier-mâché on the pumpkin or get to use googly eyes. Instead we painted the pumpkins in normal colours but this was also very fun.

We went as a family and had a lot of fun making the pipe cleaner spiders. Gemma our teacher was brilliant, really friendly, welcoming and very patient with the children. A real asset to the company, fantastic customer service skills.

All materials were supplied and good quality. We now have a family of halloween spiders. The kids sat nicely and the session was pitched at a good pace, the children were not rushed at all. Thanks Gemma!

Had the most amazing one to one sewing lesson today at Orpington Branch with the lovely Linda, always so very helpful and happy to explain in such great detail.
I learnt so much about my own new sewing machine , the thread i use, stitch patterns and most of all , my new pattern, Linda explained how to cut it out which we did and i purchased more fabric to now make my trousers, im so excited and Linda has given me so much more confidence …

‘We had to ask several staff where to go. Email asked us to be there 15 minutes before. Area not prepared. Member of staff very sweet. Tables covered with worn out table cloths. Very few resources given to workshop. Not really worth the money

I was expecting some guidance/tuition about what the children could do and the different brushes to use. The Hobbycraft person didn't know how many children were expected and she had to go back and forth several times to get more equipment. It would have been better to have more than enough to start with so she didn't have to keep leaving.
For £5 per child it was quite good value though.

Thank you for an excellent, friendly, hands- on introduction to using a sewing machine . I needed to start with the absolute basics, so threading the machine a couole of times and trying out some basic stitches was just about right for a first class. It was also useful to see that making button holes and inserting a zip are no longer a complete mystery!

The lady delivering the session was well prepared. She spoke to the children about their holiday so far then was going through each of the intrustructions clearly. She helped the children where needed and praised them for their outcomes.

My kids loved the lesson once they understood what to do as it wasn’t explained straight away. Otherwise it was good crafting.
The booking was placed on Saturday and didn’t appear until a hour before the session was to start on a Monday! The Staff blamed the Saturday staff which is not professional.

The tutor was so good at teaching Amelie how to use watercolour techniques for the first time. Amelie was totally engrossed in what she was doing and loved the class so much. The tutor had so much patience with my 7 year old granddaughter. Amelie was given a presentation box at the beginning with her own different sized brushes, two watercolour pads and one watercolour palette which was a well known make. I was so impressed with Amelie’s first watercolour lesson and we would love to go back for more lessons. A big thanks to Sam who was excellent!

My only complaint is - the heat was unbearable! We were only in the heat for one hour - but your staff have to endure that heat all day which I felt was poor reflection on your company

Penny was really lovely - a very friendly, welcoming and relaxing person. She explained the process clearly and, for the first time, I was actually able to punch needle! It was just my sister and I at the workshop so we had good attention from Penny and ample time to get into the craft. The environment was great with plenty of space. The only downside is the lack of refreshments and toilet facilities but Penny did grab us some water which was much appreciated. The kit, tools and materials were great to be able to take away. We bought some additional materials in the store to do some more punch needle designs at home.

The product wasn’t great. The glue didn't stick any of the pieces to the sock. The staff were great and tried several glues but none worked. They gave us some complementary painting kits to make up for the problem. Overall the staff were great but the product wasn’t.

I went to the sewing workshop today, had a lovely lady teacher. Who was very patient and aimed at helping me with a lot of different techniques. The venue workspace at hobbycraft was ideal for this 1 to 1 class it was also great value for money to. I learnt quite a lot of new things today so pleased at the outcome.

The tutor was very knowledgeable and showed me how to overcome my problem and was very clear in her explanations. However, we were let down by the technology. I was unable to connect to the internet in store and so couldn't show the actual problem on my laptop. The screen on the store tablet was a touch screen and so a problem I'm having with view was easy to do on there but I'm still unable to do it on my non touch screen laptop. Also the program layout was different so I am still searching for some instructions that were pointed out. The machine would not connect so I didn't get to see the final outcome cut out. I think a dedicated wired internet link is needed for the Cricut table.

I needed help making a piped cushion cover but wasn’t feeling confident about cutting out the material etc. Linda quickly showed me what to do and gave me lots of really good advice advice on the skills of cushion cover making so I feel completely confident to carry on. Penny was so patient and kind. We had a good chat while she showed me how to cast on, knit a basic stitch, purl and cast off. I’ll need to practice more but it’s much easier to learn with the help and now I feel more confident to check YouTube for reminders. The teacher was brilliant. She really knows her stuff and is a credit to Hobbycraft. However, the teaching area needs to be off the shop floor and students need a Cricut machine and a seat and the workshop should be more practical. The teacher was interrupted at least three times by customers asking questions. This is my third Cricut workshop and the same thing happens every time.

Penny the tutor was excellent, but the tutorial space and the IT requirements are very poor. This is my second course and both times the android tablets were unable to connect to the Cricuts so we couldn’t see examples actually created. Also shoppers just stopped and joined in. There needs to be a private room off the shop floor.

Teaching by Penny was excellent but she was let down by the technology. Could not connect the Cricut machines to the tablets. This meant we could not have a full learning experience. Penny did well to teach us whet she could in these difficult circumstances. I wanted to see specifically how to use infusible ink in design space.
I also think for an hour, a dedicated private space is needed and ideally, a seat!
Could not fault the teaching but disappointed with the set up.

This was a great class! The teacher was really helpful and supportive and the materials were generous and a great quality. The class Involved some parental help as a slightly more advanced box was used but the children got involved and were really interested. Penny was great. She understood how I felt overwhelmed about where to start and showed me a few different easy ways to make cards, vinyl stick on labels and how to layer projects.
