Throughout the year, Hobbycraft host a variety of workshops in stores and online, designed to give everyone the opportunity to master a new craft or refine a long-time favourite. Whether you want to enjoy crafting from the comfort of your own home or you’re looking to meet new people as you get making, these craft workshops offer something for everyone.

Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

Attended a beginners crochet class with a friend run by Julie. What a lively lady, so kind and patient. We were supplied with two full sized balls of wool and a large crochet hook to get us started in a fabric tote bag. We learnt how to start off and two of the main stitches. We also took home some clear to understand information sheets to continue stitching at home.
We were reassured that we would be welcome to pop back into the store to speak to any of the staff if needed further assistance if we got “stuck “ with the crochet techniques we’d been learning.
Excellent value for money… a most interesting, fun and worthwhile 90 minutes.
Highly recommend and much enjoyed.

Ref. Exeter store and lovely friendly teacher Kim, who is knowledgeable about Cricut and patient in reference to my barrage of questions.
I was particularly interested in the vinyl cut out procedure, and very impressed with the precision to which the machine, Joy Extra, completed its task.
With Kim's font of know how regarding what the range of Cricut machines can do, I felt confident enough to make a purchase.
The money for the class was well spent as I was able to have the time to ask questions on a one to one basis, and I believe this has saved money in the long run, by not spending money on a machine that was not right for me.

We absolutely loved the class. We spent over an hour with lovely Molly who taught us how to make the cutest little rabbit & sheep with air clay. Took my 5 year old to the canvas panting class with Kathy. He had great fun and throughly enjoyed it.

Kathy was amazing, very friendly and went above and beyond to make the most of the class for the kids.

The class was great value for money, the class took part in the middle of the store, which was fine as there was more than enough space for what was needed.

All the paints, brushes, sponges, tape, canvas - you name it, it was provided.

Throughly recommend it and we will be going to more in the future.

I had tried to teach myself to crochet, but I’m much better at learning when seeing it in action so I booked this session. Julia was so helpful, kind and patient and knowledgeable about crochet and lots of other crafts. There were 2 of us learning and it was nice and relaxed atmosphere, sat around the making table in the centre of the shop. I had a good amount of time to learn and try a few different stitches, casting on and off, as well as getting 2 balls of yarn, instruction booklet and a hook to take home. I thought this was really good value and I would certainly consider trying other workshops. I really enjoyed learning a new skill.

I found the class really helpful. She went through all the different stitches, threading the machine, parts of the machine and keeping it clean. It was all basic information of how to use my machine but much easier to understand from a real person rather than trying to read an instruction booklet! I left feeling much more confident and ready to get started. I’d definitely recommend it.

Booked the course as I had bought myself the circuit maker3 and wanted to know what to do with it and what equipment is best to have.
Kim at the Exeter store was very helpful and showed me lots of different things I can do with the machine and talked me through things I didn’t things about.

The teacher was great, we actually arrived a hour early as I had booked the session when in Europe, so there was an hour difference ‍️. However, she was very accommodating and was able to reorganise. Before starting, she checked what it was we wanted to cover during the 1hr session. She spoke clearly and was happy to answer any questions we had. We came away with some great ideas and advice on buying additional tools which was great! Definitely really recommend

Kim was very personable and friendly. And she was clearly VERY knowledgeable about all things Cricut so I felt in very good hands!
We had a few technical issues connecting to the Cricut machine but Kim handled this really well. I feel like I learned everything I need to know to get myself started. Kim also spent some time after the workshop showing me certain products I asked about. I really enjoyed the workshop and it definitely won’t be my last!

My grandchildren attended this workshop and my 5 year old granddaughter loved it. My 8 year old grandson found it a little young for him.
We bought some star number stickers to add to the count down sheet which could have been provided as part of the workshop. The picture of the end produce also shows the snowman wearing a jumper made from woven paper but this was not part of the Workshop, this may have been more challenging for the younger children but might have made it more suitable for my grandson. Over all it was good fun but I think a better guidance on the suitable age range would have helpful.

It was ok, there were 2 members of staff ar the sessionthey were both telling me to do it differently which was confusing to say the least. One told me to forget the crochet hook and use my finger instead.

This session was really good fun, informative and creative. I came with my daughter and Molly our teacher couldn't have been more helpful and encouraging.

We both really enjoyed the session and our creations - it was great to be shown different techniques which produced alternative effects. The box that you get in the workshop to take home afterwards is worth the value of the class alone.

We would highly recommend this as a class to come along to and are looking forward to going back to collect our creations. We're really looking forward to experimenting at home.

Hi, we had a wonderful time exploring this craft which resulted in some interesting effects and colour combinations. Our tutor was knowledgable and friendly and ensured we had all we needed to create a small canvas art work and decorate two ceramic coasters. We each had a kit filled with a generous selection of pre-mixed paint colours, canvases and coasters and we have enough left over to do some more at home. The paint takes 48 hours to dry so we have left our treasures in our tutor’s safe hands and will call back in a few days time to collect them. It was a fun and somewhat messy experience for our group of three (myself, mum and husband) and I really recommend it.

Julie was very nice and seemed as if she was experienced and knowledgeable. However the 2 machines that she was trying to demonstrate to me , were not working properly. I would have liked to try one , but due to the problem with the machine , i couldn't. I did get the gist of what Julie explained and showed to me .
I think she was frustrated that she couldn't give me a proper demonstration .

I did this workshop after already having done a few paint pour canvases at home but wanted to see if I would learn or try out anything else that would help me when doing more.
I was the only one on the workshop and it was nice to have individual attention. The teacher was very helpful, knowledgeable and respectful.
The venue was fairly easy to get to on public transport but unfortunately the weather was atrocious so got a bit wet getting there and home. It was good to be given a box of paint and canvases as a free gift but it would have been nice to be able to take this home so that we could do more with them at home, rather than use most of the materials in the workshop but understand the cost involved in supplying the materials to use.
The workshop was alright cost wise especially as it was one on one as no one else booked on it that day.
I was able to try out a tree ring pour and use silicone oil on canvas boards for the first time which made for interesting work and I think it was good I was able to try out not tried out at home yet.
I will need to go back to collect the boards once they are dry but nice I was able to leave them there to do that. You wouldn’t want to try taking home wet boards especially on a bus home in torrential rain!
Overall a good experience and I am glad I did the workshop.

My teacher Julie was clear and explained things very well, and had a lot of knowledge about the work in this field. The venue was great and I enjoyed my time there. The class was for an hour but I do wish it could have been longer as the time went rather quickly. That aside I would undertake another class and recommend it to others like friends and family.

Great value for money - I used my introductory 15% discount and got a box of paints and resources all nicely wrapped! The teacher was very helpful and made sure that I was happy using all the equipment. She had some good suggestions about my future project (paint pouring on MDF letters). Good lesson with a relaxed atmosphere in store. Well demonstrated by the teacher with individual feedback. Metallic brush pens that are included in the lesson are beautiful, and the templates and marker paper is good too, although the notebook's good quality it's not really needed. I learnt a lot, but felt like I needed a little more time to practice as it goes very quickly with chatting to people.

Always found the staff at Exeter really helpful and informative so chose my workshop lesson here. Had my lesson a few days ago as my cricut joy was an object of mystery and terror I'd been looking at since xmas. Went with various questions as any newbie has. These were answered plus many more! All paper materials were supplied, the knowledge she had was amazing! Plus the ability to transfer that knowledge to others is a gift. I had a brilliant time and would thoroughly recommend this type of workshop if you're buying these machines.

I am not a complete novice with a sewing machine but having pensioned off my 30+ years old one. I was just having some problems with my new one - picking up the bobbin/ winding it etc and this workshop was just what I needed. The workshop with Julie who was very knowledgeable and informative. She went through the things I was having problems with and then onto the different functions of the machine, eg tension, different stitches, buttonholes. I think it was very good value for money and look forward to booking some further workshops in the new year! Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

Loved the session, the teacher was able to assist with advice and was very positive. The table was still messy and dirty from a wreath making session making the surface a little uneven from little bits of twigs, which wanst overly pleasant.
Geat value for money, but I would have liked some different examples of brush lettering styles even just to take away. The focus was on pen technique which was essential for beginning!

I had a sewing machine for my birthday last month and, although I have used one before, this new machine is quite fancy snd has lots more features. It scared me so I thought a lesson might help. Julie was fantastic! She tailored the lessons to my needs using a machine just like mine. I learned buttonholes, zips, fancy stitches and more. Julie explained everything so clearly and showed me how to make a couple of projects.
I’m delighted with my lesson and can highly recommend it. Worth every penny.

The placement of the workshop was very in the centre of the shop which I found quite distracting at times and I can imagine at busy times, more so.
On the other hand, it was also inviting attention to the craft and our work, so I can see it is perfect as a marketing tool!

The kit provided was amazing….all you need to get going, so thank you!

Session could have lasted all night as it was so therapeutic!

It was meant to be an hour long session but the children had finished within 25 minutes and the lady running it was ready to pack up. I had to point out it was meant to be an hour and ask for some more clay.
Also one of the clays provided for the activity was an awful sticky mess that was impossible to make a fossil imprint with as it stuck to the plastic dinosaur as well as everybody's hands.
On a positive note the lady running it was very nice and friendly, and the children enjoyed it.

I was a bit nervous as I wasn't sure whether I had booked too higher level, but Meg put me straight at ease. No one else had booked on so I ended up with a 1-1 which was great. Meg was patient and a great teacher. I would 100% recommend this course at Exeter and would love to see more in store crochet classes as for some people learning on-line is difficult. I definitely would book on more classes if there were more.

Brilliant workshop! Kathy was a great tutor. She explained everything very clearly and it was easy to follow her guidance. She was very friendly- and very patient! Our materials came carefully packaged and it was fun to start by opening our boxes and unwrapping our 'treasures'. Everything needed was provided, and the macrame rope was very good quality and lovely to work with.
We were soon measuring and knotting the rope. The basic technniques were surprisingly easy, and Kathy took us through everything step by step. It was very satisfying to be able to make something so good looking so easily.

I would highly recommend the workshop to all but the youngest children. I had a lovely, relaxing and satisfying time. I wasn't rushed, and Kathy was very happy for me to stay to finish my pot holder, even after the end of the workshop. I came away a very happy customer.

My two girls had a fantastic time doing this workshop. There were lots of materials available and when one of the girls was finished early they were able to do some drawing to keep them occupied. The only downside was having to navigate the rest of our shopping trip with soggy canvases. I'm sure the wonderful staff would have held on to it for us but we weren't able to return. Maybe thinking of a solution to this would be the cherry on the cake?

It really was a very special workshop: I have never been able to do calligraphy but feel that even as a beginner, using these special pens and following the guidance, I can now produce some very passable lettering. The tutor was brilliant, and the 'Get to know your sewing machine' workshop was excellent value at £5 for an hour. I expected just to be shown how the different parts of the machine worked, but was very pleased to be able to try out some stitching too. Having only ever used a 72 year old machine, this was exactly the right workshop to bring me up to date with a modern version!

I really enjoyed my Beginners Crochet class with Meg.
I was the only one there, which was great as I got 1-1 tuition. I have never done crochet before and Meg was a friendly and patient teacher.
I learned everything I needed to in order to make a start on the crochet bunting.
The materials were all provided and were a good quality. I felt that the course was good value for money.

Firstly I would like to say that the lady that I had the 1-1 class with was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all of my questions. As a very new Cricut user it is very overwhelming and once you start to use the software an explanation of the different terms was really helpful. The downsize is the space in store for this, a very small bench table and a very small screen on a tablet which was really hard to see the icons. A dedicated area with a laptop and a much bigger screen would be much much better. You have really knowledgeable staff but they don’t have the best equipment to be able to deliver which could be a really useful and highly recommended training session. I would like to book into other sessions but maybe not until you improve the space and equipment to deliver the information that I needed to see.

What can I say ! The lady I had was fantastic. She let me ask questions and gave very clear information .
Very polite and professional in everyway.
I bought my circuit last Christmas and was afraid to use it. Did beginners course and walked out feeling lush ,I can do this. Lady explained in easy learning how it works.

Hobbycraft your employees did you proud and reacted quickly and compassionately to the situation. Very happy customer My friend and I were due to do this workshop today and have been really looking forward to it but as my friend is in isolation due to Covid we couldn’t. I was really worried about what to do so went in hoping they would let me bring some of the bits home for us to do over a zoom call together as didn’t want to waste the money we’d spent. The Exeter staff could not have been more helpful. The kits are all individually wrapped so bringing home was perfect but the instructor took time to still talk me through some tips and checked I understood how it all worked and even wished my friend a speedy recovery. The staff were just brilliant and I feel it’s great value for money having 9 baubles each to create.

Kat was lovely. A bit of technology issues but other than that found it useful. I'm not sure why you charge for itits not really a workshop as you don't do anythingits more information about how to use the cricutor it would be nice to get a voucher to spend on a purchase. I went on to buy a cricut.

I really enjoyed this class and learned some new skills. You leave with your own wreath that can go straight onto your door. Our teacher was very friendly and she showed us some wreaths for autumn, not just Christmas. I bought some extra kit to bring home. My 12y old is supervising me with the glue gun!

The team at Hobbycraft Exeter were very friendly and helpful. We did an autumn wreath workshop, where the materials were supplied (all boxed up with a glue gun too). We were guided on what to do and left to play and create - with assistance right there if needed. While the cost was more than I really would have wanted to pay, it was good. I’m likely to keep a keen eye on future workshops!

This is the first workshop I have done with Hobbycraft.
Sara was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and made it good fun.
I was given a big 'kit' with all the items necessary to make my 'masterpieces', and I could take home what was left - plenty for me to experiment with.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be signing up for other workshops.

This was a fab workshop and just what I was looking for. The teacher, Jo, was very kind and patient. The workstation was ideal and the templates provided for practicing were excellent. I came away from the workshop feeling much more confident and some good ideas for helping me along my learning journey. Karen was an excellent trainer. We talked through what I wanted to achieve as it is a long time since I used a sewing machine. She clearly explained what I needed to do to produce a neat hemline on an existing denim skirt. Denim is thicker than any material I have ever used and I want to end up with a skirt I can feel proud to wear.
She also suggested some things I should perhaps make to practice my skills and become confident again. The examples she showed me did give me some ideas that are of varying complexity, but the materials are affordable, and they can be used as gifts.
