Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Tracy, attended Apr 2025: Well what can I say. Julie was experienced friendly and very knowledgeable despite being in a lot of pain from a fall this morning. me being a total beginner and wanting to learn how to use a sewing machine and help to pick one and she did just that. Julie showed me all the different stitches you can do how to fill the bobbin and thread the needle even down to her hints and tips of what not to do and do. Julie you really are a credit to the company. I will be sure to go back in if I have any issues with anything and will recommend anyone the workshops this is the second one i have done there the last one being crochet
  • 5/5 from Alys Martin, attended Apr 2025: I booked a sewing machine one to one class. It's something I've been meaning to do for ages and finally managed to do it. Julie at the Exeter store was brilliant, explained things very clearly. I got home and had mine going in 30 minutes, which I was amazed and super pleased with - especially given my machine is quite different to the one in the shop! Julie also helped choose a pattern for a dress for my daughter, which is my goal, and talked me through some basics with using the pattern. Very excited to get going on some more basic projects first.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Apr 2025: Absolutely brilliant teacher with a huge wealth of knowledge, very generous with their time and expertise. Highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Kate Picken, attended Apr 2025: Julie was very friendly and had prepared my reading our comments and specific areas of interest. She demonstrated excellently and had the right machine and all necessary materials to hand. A little more opportunity to practice ourselves under her guidance might have helped to build confidence, but each time we asked it was fine to have-a-go. She highlighted a known typo in the instruction manual for the Hobbycraft 19s machine in relation to threading the lower bobbin - anticlockwise, not clockwise - it would be good to correct this for all users!
  • 5/5 from Lynda, attended Mar 2025: Just had a brilliant session with Julie. I’ve not had a sewing machine before and she has made me feel so much more confident to get going! I want to learn to quilt and, as she guided me through the various stages, her experience and passion shone through. I am really excited to get started. Thank you so much, Julie.

  • 4/5 from Jeannine Hendrick, attended Feb 2025: Fabulous tutor who communicated clearly and was able to articulate techniques with clarity which made it straightforward to understand. Demonstration was thorough and detailed. I was allowed to take photos and a video for later reference. However, due to health and safety regulations not being met by Hobbycraft I was not permitted to use their machine to practice or take my own machine to the lesson. My rating is no reflection on the tutor but of the limitations of the 1-1 imposed by Hobbycraft.
