Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

I attended the Paint Pouring workshop run by Danielle at Hobbycraft in Bedford on Thursday 2nd May 2024. I had a really fun time learning a new skill and Danielle was excellent. Was extremely friendly, gave excellent instruction, and great suggestions. And I got to takeaway a fab kit of paints and tools to continue the fun at home. Would highly recommend this workshop.

Booked this for my 10 year old granddaughter. She has just started textiles at school and this was perfect to start learning about sewing using a machine. Kody was brilliant. Brush lettering looks beautiful, so I wanted to learn how to do it for my card making. I'd looked at online tutorials and templates, but I much prefer the in person input!

The pens and pad of paper (and little bag) were a great starter to take home.

Danielle was patient and explained the best way to do the letters, and went round to help us individually (there were 4 on the course).

The hour flew by and we ended up going over just a little bit.

I have lots of practicing to do, but feel confident with the tips and advice given, that I'll be writing beautifully soon!

Teacher was good and adapted to needs. My child expected the options to be a rabbit or a sheep, but the only option given was a rabbit, so typically, my child said no and did a dinosaur instead! May have picked an Easter animal if there were more options!

Danielle was really good explaining the materials and process. She showed how to measure and prepare the paint and demonstrated different ways of pouring to create the basic effects. Then when those were complete, Danielle suggested further techniques and encouraged me to play with them.
I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to try new effects, good value for money as the kit is included.

Our teacher, Olivia, was lovely and keen to teach us how to crochet. She was very patient and an excellent teacher. She alone deserves five stars.
I think Hobbycraft should stipulate the minimum age for these lessons, as even though Olivia was doing her best to teach us all, the nine-year-old that was in our session took the majority of her attention and left me feeling that my daughter and I didn't learn as much as we hoped we would.

I enjoyed an excellent one-to-one workshop with Tanya at Bedford store. My questions were answered and Tanya gave me many tips on working in Design Space, which have already proved useful. My Cricut Joy is absolutely new to me but I have now been able to make titles & embellishments for Scrapbook pages, downloading both Text & Images and using Cut & Draw techniques. I booked this class because my daughter and I have always wanted to learn crochet and we are absolute beginners. The teacher (Olivia) was fantastic. She was the perfect teacher - patient, kind, knowledgeable and able to show us in different ways if we didn't understand the first time. For the class, you are given 2 different balls of wool and the crochet needle which you take home with you. After 1.5 hours we left the class able to do the basic stitches we needed to start a project and felt confident. Really recommend this class!

Letting beginners know at the start that tension is important with examples of what first stitches should look like. Instructor is obviously knowledgeable about crochet but didn’t seem confident to teach others, so everyone in the class asked several times for clarification & support. A video showing steps would’ve been helpful & encouraging beginners to make personal notes, the booklet images were not clear enough.

Had a brilliant class with Olivia, it ended up being one on one as I was the only booking for that session. She was amazing - so knowledgable, patient and friendly. I struggled a bit at the beginning as I’d only just done the beginner’s guide to crochet class the evening before but I came away feeling quite confident in how to finish off my granny square and make more! I would definitely recommend!

The teacher was nice, however I think she could’ve made more of an effort to support the children I had bought along with me.
A suggestion would be to get up and look at each persons work and support them individually once she’s given a demonstration. Even though people were saying they were struggling she just stayed sat in her chair. Hands on support would’ve improved the experience. I’m not sure we got much out of the session - apart from a gift bag.

Our teacher Danielle was brilliant. She was very knowledgeable and taught us how to simplify some of the letters as I was struggling with some of the fancier script. She was also incredibly patient with me.
I loved the fact that even though we didn’t pay for one on one, my friend and I were the only ones on the workshop, so we got a great learning experience tailored to our needs!
We were given a lovely metallic brush pen set, which were very easy to use and nice colours, letter guides and a full pad of paper to practice with when we got home.
I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn the basics!

The worker Koby at Bedford leading the workshop was amazing. The decorations were lovely, but my child struggled with them, needing quite a bit of assistance especially to make the star. She really enjoyed the painted bauble, but I feel that should have been done first to allow time to dry.

Very enjoyable workshop with a knowledgeable teacher who clearly demonstrated each step of how to put the star wreath together. The workshop was only one hour long so the idea of “wrapping” the star with the silver twine was abandoned early on as we would not have had enough time to complete the project.

Our lesson with Olivia was fun and engaging and we learned so much! We had previously tried to teach ourselves crochet from books and YouTube and got nowhere. Just attended learn to crochet which was fabulous! Had struggled to learn by myself, so face to face was so much better! Teacher was fab! Calm, helpful, just the right amount of chat. Very happy. Also please with the kit- to be honest felt like the class was free as the kit is pretty good and plenty to take away ns practice with!

This was a fun session. Danielle explained the procedure step by step and allowed variations where we wanted to experiment. There was plenty of space. Ample materials were provided and it all came in a roomy reusable calico bag. Danielle found space in the shop to store some of our work overnight as there wasn't space to keep it all flat in my car boot! We are all pleased with our creations. All in all a super experience.

Great workshop. We were given plenty of bits to create a full autumn wreath. Our tutor gave us good tips on how best to approach it. There was no rush as we come near to the end of the class, so plenty of time to get it done.

There were 5 children in the workshop so the teacher had time to help each child individually. She was able to assist with all their random requests for things they chose to make from the clay. A good amount of clay was provided. The workshop was well-pitched and a good length, and my 6 and 7 year olds enjoyed it. This is the second Hobbycraft workshop they've done this summer and the other was also good.

Booked Kids' Personalised Canvas Painting for the granddaughters who are age 7 & 10.

They throughly enjoyed it. The member of staff that took it was really good with them, with clear, detailed easy to follow instructions.

Everything provided for, great value for money. Nice little keepsake to take home.

Great value for money at £5. My daughter was really looking forward to the class and it was great. There were lots of materials she could use, she had bells, beads, feathers etc on her wind chime . Danielle was wonderful. So friendly and welcoming. My daughter warmed to her instantly. Activity was easy for my just 4yo to complete mostly independently with just a little help to twist the pipe cleaners together at the end. The children were able to make of it what they wanted as the only direction was to put beads on the pipe cleaners, the colours and patterns were up to them!

It was easy to book a One-to-One Knitting Workshop with Koby (or Kody) in Bedford through their website.

I had knitted 2 jumpers and 1 cardigan that I wanted to know the best way to sew them up. She showed me how to use a crochet needle to make a flat seam. so much neater and a more professional finish.

She also showed me how to do blanket stitch over the change of colour yarn.

Soon I will actually be able to wear them.

Highly recommend the Workshop.

We learnt some great techniques for making and decorating clay and my daughter is very keen to make some more decorations at home with the clay we had left. I took my granddaughters to the Easter Bonnet workshop. Everything was provided for and they had a choice of materials to use.
With the help of Koby, who was very patient, chatty and helpful with the girls they came away very pleased with their new hats.
They enjoyed it so much they have asked if they can go again.

My tutor , Olivia, was fantastic. She answered all my questions, was very patient with me and she gave me a great sense of achievement when completing a crochet square. The wool was lovely and soft and the hook was easy to work with. The environment in which we worked was fine although some customers in the shop asked for help while she was teaching, which she was unable to help with.
Should Olivia do other crochet lessons l would certainly attend once l have mastered the stitches she has taught me. Thank you Olivia.

I really enjoyed the workshop today with Danielle. She was very experienced and had a great teaching style which gave me the confidence to get back into water colour painting. It was really excellent value, with the superb welcome pack containing lots of quality materials - paints, brushes and pads of paper - and all to take away!

I learned how to be more free with the brush and we used a number of the different brushes to show the different textures that can be achieved. It was a welcome relaxing diversion from my busy life and has given me the kick start to continue painting.

Olivia was fantastic, so patient and friendly. Her demonstrations on how to do the basics was simple yet informative. With this being my first time doing crochet, I had no idea what I was doing, but soon picked it up with Olivia's help. The added touch of us all individually receiving a box of goodies was really lovely.
I really really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to do start crochet or even as refresher.

Maxine was the perfect teacher and I came away from the session with a lovely Christmas wreath.
We were positioned in a central area and were interrupted by other customers wanting assistance and after the session I wanted to buy equipment to make a second wreath but the available equipment was very poor. An area to one side and more equipment to buy after the session would have made the experience even better.

This was my first workshop and I really enjoyed it. Maxine, our tutor, was excellent - explaining each step of the process clearly; she was very patient and hands-on, when needed (especially in detangling the bullion!). There was plenty of space to work (although the chair was too low to be truly comfortable, so happier to stand). I enjoyed my first workshop and will consider attending more in the future.

For me the demo was great. Reba was very knowledgable. However, it was frustrating as out of the other 3 people attending, only 1 had a Cricut machine and the other 2 thought they were going to be making something themselves to take away. One was adamant the demo said we would be doing infusible ink coasters.
Reba was very good at dealing with this and gave me a bit more time at the end to explain somethings to me.
I would attend more demo / workshops and have to hope others attending are on the right course,

Excellent value for money as the hook and yarn is provided along with some instructions. The 1.5 hrs flew by as we learned making a chain, double and treble stitch. Our teacher Gemma was lovely.

The lady who took the workshop was nice and did have some ideas to share about ways to decorate the advent calendar but when I was reading the write up for the workshop I thought we would be taught how to use all the elements of the kit including the pens and also be taught how to draw some of the designs enclosed in the kit, unfortunately this was not the case as the lady taking the workshop stated early on that she did not have the ability to draw anything really.
Overall the kit was good value for money and was good to get out of the house and socialise with others for a couple of hours but I was disappointed that there were no new skills for me to learn.

This was my first Hobbycraft workshop & I loved the way the materials were packaged. I will definitely be trying out another craft workshop.

The Cricut Maker 3 is an excellent digital cutting machine. It’s easy to use, requires no previous skills. Reba was extremely helpful, friendly and guided me through the process of the little project I made at my class. All the materials was provided by hobbycraft. Kids had a great time. They had a choice between a dinosaur and a rabbit which suited us perfectly. My 3 & 5 year old managed with help from myself and my 6 year old managed quite independently with help from the instructor. Would also be suitable for older kids too.

Reba, my teacher was great. She talked me through how the machine works, the apps and the website. She allowed me to play around the ipad to sue some of the templates, etc. Unfortunately, the cricut website was down or was not loading and I was not able to see the machine working in action.
Reba and her colleague tried several machines and took a lot of time and effort to try to get them connected, but it did not work. They took my details and said they would speak to the manager to have me come back in for another session. I am looking forward to seeing the machine in action and very grateful for all their effort.

We had a really lovely time at the Brushlettering course on Saturday. An hour is long enough to learn the basics and to have plenty of practises, even with me and my mate chattering constantly. My class with Tanya this morning was just what I needed to get me using my Cricut machine. Tanya has an excellent understanding of the software and was extremely patient. She has a great information sheet which she gave me at the end of the class that enabled me to go home and complete a project that I have wanted to do for some time using the iron on vinyl. (Excuse my grubby craft apron, I couldn’t wait to wash it first)

The teacher was absolutely first rate. She provided all the help and information that I had requested and presented it splendidly. She clearly had excellent knowledge which she imparted in a way that was very accessible. I really enjoyed my hour.
Also present was another member of staff who was undergoing Cricut training. She, too was very helpful and pleasant. She had served me a little while back and had been excellent then, too. Indeed, it was on her recommendation that I booked the workshop.
I'm sorry. I didn't catch the name of either lady.
A couple of weeks earlier I had been in the store and had been assisted by 2 other helpful members of staff. This is not specifically relevant to the workshop I have just attended but is indicative of a pattern of pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable staff who have made visiting Hobbycraft, Bedford most agreeable.

(ps the store internet connection was of variable quality. Might the store ensure that a reliable, good quality connection is available for staff needing to use it)

Because Olivia was such a good teacher who helped with the project we were able to finish it in the allocated time. This means I will be able to use the hanging as an example of the stitches to do more macrame at home. This would not have been the case if there had been more people on the course. I need to see things done to understand them so would struggle to finish off the work without help at home.
I found the chairs to be a bit low for the table we were working at otherwise no complaints.

I booked my two girls (ages 3 & 8) who both enjoyed this workshop. It was reasonably priced and the teacher was friendly and helpful. They chose a dinosaur and a unicorn to paint which included paints (washable) and brush. They also supplied full aprons. 30 minutes was nice but perhaps a little longer is needed for younger children, although as it was quiet we were offered more time. It was so good that I've booked an adult workshop for me and my friend

Was such a fun morning with my daughter and her 2 besties! They had so much fun creating their own bonnets and even more fun being assisted to use a glue gun for the 1st time.
The lady running the workshop was amazing with the girls and helped to make items to make there bonnets extra special.
We all look forward to our next workshop :)

Lovely lady but a little timid.
Would be interesting to cover more in fluid art eg, Dutch pouring, open cup pouring etc. class could be made to last a little longer. I would suggest more knowledge required on different techniques and also regarding mixing paint with pouring medium or alternatives. I did enjoy the workshop and I did have fun.

Teacher was lovely, venue worked well although some shoppers interrupted the class to ask questions about store items. The class could have been cheaper as we received 3 balls of macrame cord for the wall hanging and we only used half of one ball for the project!

I had mi macrame session last night. I really enjoyed it! The materials provided in the kit were enough to do the session and to continue more creations at home. I had my session with Olivia. There was some confusion when I turned up so I had to go and chase up the person who was supposed to be demonstrating the machine.
2 machines were compared and I was shown how to thread the machine and choose the different stitches. I did not have a chance to actually use the machine, which would have been helpful. However, the demonstrator was very clear with his instructions

My friend and I did the lettering class with Koby…great teaching, lovely supply of pens, paper, labels etc all included in the box. Much laughter at our total inability to get it right, much patience from Koby, we had fun, he probably thought we were batty and I think he might be right. Well worth it. We’ll definitely be back for another class! Thank you!

We got to our class and where greeted by coby, they were welcoming and made us feel comfortable.
The class itself was set out well and started with the basic techniques before building up to doing joined you writing! I feel confident to go home and be able to do practice joined up words.
The hour flew past and I couldn’t believe it was time to pack up! Throughly enjoyed our lesson and coby was fab!’

I was greeted by a lovely lady, Olivia, who got me seated with my box of bits needed to make my macrame. I thought the presentation of the contents was lovely. Olivia was a great teacher, she was very thorough and talked me through the steps as we went (I was the only person in the class which was a bonus). Olivia was very patient and friendly and was very enthusiastic about crafts. I really had fun doing it, learnt a lot. Thanks Olivia

The resources were good. The setting was good as it wasn’t in the main thoroughfare. I felt the workshop would have been better if the facilitator had explained to younger participants the techniques of holding a paint brush to get the most control. Talked about colour mixing etc. I would book again

She was polite friendly and very knowledgeable.
I am a complete novice and she made me feel confident I can use my machine.
She was patient and kind.
I learnt a lot from her and as I said I am now confident to actual turn my machine on.
I’d 100% recommend a 1-2-1 session and will definitely look at other sessions offered

Highly recommend the 1:1 session. Because I’m a beginner, I was talked through the process from threading the needle and inserting the bobbin to be able to sew a button hole and sew on a button of different sizes. There were different machines available and luckily I had a go on one like mine and another very similar. The instructor was lovely: patient and had useful habits to pass on.

This tutorial was absolutely amazing. Aida was very welcoming, patient and containing of my initial intimidation towards my sewing machine. I left excited and in touch with my ability to use a sewing machine with greater confidence.
Aida showed me how to set up and use my machine and let me practice too which made the learning far more constructive and memorable. I am so happy and in hindsight I regret not having booked the tutorial sooner.
The value for money is incredible and a very good investment towards creative exploration. Staff were wonderful and supportive.
This is one of many tutorials/workshops I intend to take with Hobbycraft.
I would definitely recommend it.

The class was good it was nice to be able to talk to someone and have little questions answered by someone rather than trawling through the internet.
The space set up was good with plenty of space. The teacher was happy to help, good listener and tried to answer questions I had. I appreciated you helping me find tools at the end to help me with my project.

However, some questions were not answered. I think with more workshops there will be more content to the sessions and question will be more easily answered.

Otherwise, a really fantastic opportunity to offer people. Thank you.
